Frequently Asked Questions:
Q. What will I gain from becoming a sister of Delta Xi Phi?
A. Your participation in our sisterhood will provide her with an opportunity
to serve as a leader both in the chapter and on campus through interaction
with the university community. You will develop a greater sense of financial
responsibility and learn about financial planning. Our organization is focused
on academic excellence and the pursuit of larger opportunities for woman in
higher education. Each chapter adheres to initiatives that provide every opportunity
for academic achievement and success for each sister. you will have a support
network that will serve her throughout her collegiate experience and well
beyond.
Q. Will my academics suffer by being involved?
A. One of the foundations of our sisterhood is promoting advancement of women
in higher education. We study together and offer mentoring opportunities to
ensure that our sisters have the strongest academic performance possible.
We take pride in the fact that many of our sisters have pursued post-baccalaureate
degrees and earned national recognition in their fields of study. Furthermore,
many of our sisters in professional fields offer internship, employment, and
professional development to our undergraduate sisters.
Q. Your organization is smaller than traditional Greek organizations?..Why
Delta Xi Phi?
A. Our organization is small compared to some older, more traditional organizations
but that is one of the things that makes us unique. Each of our chapters are
small close knit groups of women who become our family away from home. Your
daughter may not only gain a new friend but a true sister. We are proud of
the fact that our size and diversity brings together women who might never
have met and who come to be lifelong friends. We are friends by chance, sisters
by choice!
Q. How much does membership cost and where does the money go?
A. The cost of dues for sisters and associate members of Delta Xi Phi are
nominal in comparison with other national sororities. None of our chapters
have houses which reduces the cost to each sister per semester. The monies
from dues support the local chapters and the national organization. These
funds provide for our sorority initiatives and programs that we sponsor which
include Aids Walk, Take Back the Night, and holiday programs for disadvantaged
children. Every sister has the right to request financial records from her
chapter and the National Executive Board at anytime. Your daughter will see
first hand how her dues are used and the impact they have on the organizations
and people we serve.
Q. What about hazing?
A. Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. has a strict zero tolerance policy
in regards to hazing. We have adopted a National Policy that details our position
and the ramifications for violating the policy. Each sister and associate
member has a copy of the policy which is reviewed at least once a year. Our
organization also adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Fraternal Information
& Programming Group, www.fipg.com. In the event that your daughter has a concern
or question you may address those issues with her New Member Educator or the
National Membership Coordinator.
Also, we have recently obtained Liability Insurance that protects all of the
members of chapters and colonies. The National Board is dedicated to the safety
and welfare of our sisters.
