DRUNK DRIVERS KILL!!!!

Every day in the news you hear about at least one
incident where an innocent person was killed by a
drunk driver.
The numbers seem to increase at a rapid pace and it
is about time that stronger measures be taken to
remove these dangerous drivers from our roads.

There are several organizations now that are trying
to achieve this but more needs to be done.
I am so tired of reading or hearing that someone who
was arrested after killing several people while driving drunk
will or has been tried for vehicular manslaughter, which at most
means five years in jail.

These people will continue to drive drunk.
They will drive without a license and continue to kill.
When will the killing stop?
Drunk drivers ARE impaired drivers. BUT they do so at their
own doing and deserve to pay for their crimes. Saying "I am a SO
sorry" does not bring people back to life.

THEY are murderers and deserve to be tried as such!

The blood alcohol level has been set to a level
that attempts to have anyone having more than one
or two drinks arrested, but this will not keep
someone from driving when he/she has been drinking
because they always say "I am fine" when they are not.
Revoking a drivers license does no good because most
will continue to drive even though they do not have
a valid license!
Some states have passed laws making the bars
responsible for serving a patron when it becomes
clear that they are not capable of making a rational
decision. While this is a good idea, it does not
always work because many people do not look or act
drunk even when they really are.
The organizations that are attempting to reach the
public's awareness about driving while under the
influence are doing a wonderful thing for society
BUT the people that drink have to see, hear and
understnad before they will act.
Most drinkers have the attitude that "It cannot happen
to me" and continue to drive even when they have
far exceded the legal limit.
FRIENDS DO NOT LET FRIENDS DRIVE DRUNK?
I have seen people that could not stand up or walk
swear that they were "fine to drive" and in most
of these cases their firends have been drinking and do
not realize how intoxicated they or their friend are.
Well if all of them have been drinking, who will
determine when someone has had too much to drink
and cannot drive?
The problem with TEEN-AGED drinking is on the rise.
It is my belief that THIS problem needs to be addressed
in the home by the parents.
However in this era of increasing divorce with many
kids being raised in broken homes there is conflict
between parents as to how to raise the children
This only increases the confusion in the kids and leads
to increased drinking among teens.
Another problem is that many, many parents either do
not or choose not to see that there child IS drinking
and therefore does nothing to curb the situation.
The schools are trying to reach these kids also.
There are classes that address the issue and try to
reinforce positive images that will prevent kids from
drinking because "everyone else is doing it".
I know of one situation (my sons high school)
where the S.A.D.D. (students Against Drunk Driving)
was disbanded because it offered free designated
drivers to their friends. It was done on the basis
that this program encouraged their peers to drink and
still know they could get a safe ride home!!!
I do not know if there IS a solution to the age old
problem of DRUNK DRIVING but I am speaking out on a
subject that I believe in in an effort to maybe reach
ONE person that drinks and drives.
I would like to end this with one thought for those
that do drink and drive.
THE LIFE YOU LOSE MIGHT BE YOUR OWN" and THE LIFE LOST
BY ANOTHER DRUNK DRIVER MIGHT BE YOUR LOVED ONE!!! REMEMBER THE INNOCENT PEOPLE KILLED BY DRUNK DRIVERS ARE
SOMEONES LOVED ONE!!!!!
