BACK TO INDEXJUSTICE AT ITS BEST!!! Yesterday in "Anne Landers", I read Something that really made my day. It was a letter telling about the sentence a judge imposed on a young driver that killed two people while he has drunk. Rather than repeat the entire column here I will only detail the terms of the mans sentence. The man, ages 20, pled no contest to two charges of "Intoxicated man- slaughter. HE WAS GIVEN SIX MONTHS IN JAIL Released on 10 years probation With the following conditions to be enforced by the courts: ATTEND BOOT CAMP ERECT A CROSS AND A STAR ON THE SITE OF THE ACCIDENT MAINTAIN THEM AND THE AREA AROUND THEM. CARRY A SIGN OUTSIDE A BAR SAYING "I KILLED TWO PEOPLE DRIVING DRUNK." CARRY A PICTURE OF HIS TWO VICTIMS IN HIS WALLET FOR THE TEN YEARS. "REFRAIN" FROM DRIVING FOR THE 10 YEARS. SPEAK TO STUDENTS IN HIGH SCHOOLS ABOUT HIS OWN EXPERIENCE. SENT TEN DOLLARS A WEEK TO A MEMORIAL FUND, IN THE NAME OF HIS VICTIMS. PLACE FLOWERS ON THEIR GRAVES FOR TEN YEARS THE WIFE OF THE MAN KILLED AGREED TO THE TERMS BECAUSE SHE FELT IT WOULD DO MORE GOOD THAN SENDING A YOUTH TO PRISON. THE JUDGE WAS TED POST (CITY AND STATE NOT KNOWN) I too agree that this will be more effective than prison and more judges should adopt this as a sentence in cases where alcohol and driving deaths occur.
