My father had the blessing of meeting Eddy
Arnold and working with him when he did commercials for Formost Dairies.
Now, my father, Dick Sendelbach, will celebrate his 85th birthday on August
31. He wants a party with his family and friends, and says he wishes Eddy
Arnold could sing for him. I know that can't happen, but some of you may
have ideas of how we can make Eddy Arnold present to my father in another
way on his special day. Any ideas? My Dad is an incredible, loving person,
and I'd like to do something special for him even if we can't have Eddy
Arnold there in person.

I have been a fan of Eddy's from the 40"s
when Cattle Call" was so popular. In the 60's I bought every record he
made. Not only is he the greatest singer I have ever heard he is a the
finest gentleman in his field and a credit to the industry.

He has given us certain talents and gifts. Unfortunately, most people do
not fulfill their talents and use their gifts properly. In Eddy Arnold's
case he has fulfilled God's plan for him. Eddy has the talent to sing,

I was born in 1960 and thanks to my father
I grew up listening to a lot of Eddy Arnold music. At the time I didn't
have an appreciation for Eddy's music. It was years later that I recalled
his music and what an important part it was of my growing up. Many of my
fond memories from my childhood have an Eddy Arnold soundtrack in the background,
if you know what I mean. Even today I am kind of a "closet" Eddy Arnold
listener as all my contemporaries don't even know who Eddy Arnold is. My
wife and daughters cringe when I play his music. But inside I have to laugh
because I have a feeling some day in the future my daughters may look back
and find an appreciation for his music like I have. Eddy's voice is just
too wonderful. It will pass the test of time and then some. Thank you Eddy
for all the wonderful music you made.

I heard a recording of Eddy Arnold for the
first time on Armed Forces Radio in December, 1944 while returning from
a bombing mission over Germany. As radio operator on B-17's I could "pipe"
it to the rest of the crew..My best memory tells me the song was "I Walk
Alone" and I've been a fan ever since.

He has multiple myloma and it is in the final stages. He has been a country
music fan all of his life and used to play the guitar and banjo many years
ago. Eddy is one of his favorite singers. We are having a birthday party
for him although his physical condition has deteriorated very badly. If

Dad says you are a good friend of his and
told me about this site. It's great! I grew up listening to Eddy's music
and have a brother named after him. My dad lives in Bend, Or and sends
me copies of all of Eddy's music. Wonder if he told you about the first
time he met Eddy? It was in 1950 or early 1951 that Mom and Dad drove all
day to Oklahoma City to see Eddy in concert. After the show they went outside
to the performers' exit to try to get to talk with Eddy. His band The Plowboys
were there and Dad had a great time talking with them. Mom say Eddy come
out of the theater and she tried to tell dad, but he was too busy talking.
She kept saying, "Bill there's Eddy! Bill there's Eddy!" until she got
frustrated and yelled "BILL LAWRENCE THERE'S EDDY ARNOLD!" Dad whipped
around, "Where, where, where?" Mom said he was like a kid and Eddy just
laughed and enjoyed every second of this funny scene.

In the past, Eddy has been overlooked and

country music artists have been inducted, and whose images, I might add,
with drug addiction, etc. and talent, are no where near comparable to Eddy
Arnold -- in my opinion.

of the Florida Country Music News a couple of weeks ago, and following
that, is a letter written by Mr. Zeke Thomas which pretty well sums up
Eddy Arnold.

much appreciate your giving this campaign some notable mention and/or support.

John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts***
I just got off the telephone from talking
to Eddy Arnold at his office in Brentwood, Tennessee. What a delightful
man!
The purpose of my call to Eddy was to let
him know of this special issue of the Florida Country Music News in asking
my subscribers to write or FAX their support letters for Eddy's name to
be added to the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
Other eminent country artists who have met
the specific criteria of contribution to their field and to society and
selected for this significant honor are Roy Acuff, Johnny Cash, and Willie
Nelson.
It is certainly now time for Eddy Arnold!
Quite frankly, it is a mystery to me how someone so distinguished in music
for half a century with a slate so spanking clean it is blinding has not
already been bestowed this honor. How has this man and all that he has
contributed to America's music been overlooked?
Eddy was very spry and cordial this morning
on the phone, and that great bear tone voice was as stable and steady as
ever with no hint of a man eighty-four years old! I asked Eddy how
he spends his days since his retirement and he replied in that laid-back
manner of his, "Why, I come into my office and work every day since my
retirement three years ago." Me being me, I got off on the deterioration
of country (and pop) music and the insipid stuff that is being played on
major radio today, but good-natured Eddy only laughed and tactfully replied,
"It is quite different now, isn't it?" We had a most pleasant conversation
and he was especially gracious and expressed his gratitude to his Florida
fans, "I want to thank you and all your Florida readers very, very much
for your support." Such a humble, dear man!
Following is the letter that Zeke Thomas wrote
to James A. Johnson which, in my opinion, pretty well sums up Eddy Arnold.
Please write or FAX your support today to Mr. Johnson at the below address
or FAX number. You can say anything you want, but make your appeal TODAY.
Time is crucial. Bill Comer and Frank Cunningham have worked very
diligently to have Eddy selected for this deserving and long overdue honor.
Let's not let them or Eddy down.

Dear Mr. Johnson:
Eddy Arnold has been an institution in music
for over half a century. Deservedly, he has been awarded many honors throughout
his long career, some in the country music field and some in popular music.
I like to think of Eddy Arnold's music as
"Americana" without a label. During his prime years, which span from the
40's through the 90's, the fascination of his music appealed to a wide
range of music lovers. His talent as a singer was extraordinary and his
recordings simultaneously dominated country and popular radio airways for
several decades. He started out in an era when a singer had to have genuine
talent since there were no professional studio tools to correct off-key
singers as there are today. He spontaneously delivered a song with such
ease that it was almost like having a casual conversation with him. There
has never been a singer quite like Eddy Arnold.
Eddy Arnold's persona as a clean cut individual
has always been unquestionable. He treated his superiors, employees, peers,
and fans with equal respect. He never demanded "the star treatment" and
I sometimes got the impression that he was a little embarrassed about his
phenomenal fame. What you saw is what you got, a man of high integrity
who tried to live by the Golden Rule.
Eddy Arnold is a performer that America has
admired for over five decades. If anyone is deserving of the high honor
of having their name added to The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing
Arts, it is Eddy Arnold. I hope that you will give serious consideration
to his nomination.

I don't know if you realize it or not, but my daughter went to medical
school in Nashville at Vanderbilt. She worked as a hostess at The
Stockyards Restaurant there in Nashville for years for Buddy Killen.
Mr. Arnold and his wife came in often and she had the priviledge of taking
them to their table many, many times while she was a young college student.
Mr. & Mrs. Arnold never failed to tip
her out during the hardest years of her working two jobs to get through
medical school. Our family will never forget the kindness and goodness
that Mr. & Mrs. Arnold showed to our daughter, Cayce Michelle Metzgar.

letters that may be sent. We are putting together a commemorative
book for Eddy and all letters are being included. I expect to be

I am a professional Pedal Steel Guitar musician.
I am 70 years old and have backed quite a few other big name musicians,
but never one that could come any where close to Mr. Arnold's true
quility. From low notes to high notes true and right on the button.
I first heard him on radio with Little Roy Wiggins (which I have met) and
Skeeter Willis, was with him. I have loved his singing ever since.
In my 50 years I have never heard anything but respect for him. I
just wish I would have had the honor to have met him and been able to tell
him how much pleasure he has given me all this time. I would be so
honored to hear from him. By the way I am still playing just like
Mr.Arnold. I love this business. Would like to know what the

There has never been a singer like Eddy Arnold

perfectly that listening to one of his soothing ballads is always tantamount
to taking a tranquilizer. He never fails to have a calming effect.
One thing that always impressed me about Eddy
Arnold's music was the fact that one could almost analyze the man from

Eddy Arnold is one of the few authentic living
legends left. His music has graced American audiences for over fifty
years; he has appealed to a legion of mixed musical preferences; and his
list of hit songs over the years is remarkable. His name is synonymous
with country and popular music … and no one has contributed more to ether
genre than Eddy.
As a person, he always appeared to be beyond
reproach. I don't ever recall hearing or reading of any chemical dependence
or any other scandal involving Eddy Arnold. He was a family man and
has the same wife today that he started out with over sixty years ago.
It would be a great disappointment to many
music fans all over the world if Eddy Arnold is passed in having his name
added to the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.
I earnestly urge you to seriously consider
his induction.

IN MEMORIAM
I wish to express my deepest sympathy to Bill
Comer the Web Master of this site. It was June 7th,1997 that Bill lost
his most dearest friend of 32 years, Eldred Carpenter. Even the passing
of 5 years doesn't lessen the feeling of such a great lost. Bill worked
and ate lunch with Eldred all those years...and his passing was deeply
felt on that day. They say the passing of time heals the hurt of such a
dear friend. I doubt Bill will ever get over the lost of Eldred. My heart

music since the early 1960s. He, along with Jim Reeves and Marty Robbins,
are my all-time favorites. As the second best selling country artist of

Ever so often, the "Grand Ole Opry" televises
an anniversary program, hosted the past two times by Dolly Pardon. To my
regret, there has been little or no mention of one of the greatest of all
"country artists," Eddy Arnold. This oversight is difficult to understand.

I have been a long-time fan of Eddy Arnold.
No matter where I was, even in lonely times, the sound of Eddy's voice
reached me like an Upper Level family ! I love Eddy's style, and warmth

Received a very pleasant e-mail from Don Stewart
another fan of Eddy's and decided to make a return trip to see what's new.
I listened to Eddy on a wind up Victrola when
I was around 7 years. old. His clear, clean sound, and his relaxed truly
musical delivery made every one I knew try to sing like that. I believe
he had a personal standard that held his lyric choices to wholesome fun
and positive outlook. Even the sad story songs, "Angel with a dirty face"
for example, left you with a feeling of kinship to all humanity on an emotional
level. He made an impact in my life beyond anything I could write on this
page. Thank God I lived in this World in Eddy's time.
I enjoy this site very much. I hope you attract
some of the younger country fans. Eddy opened the way for the Garth's,
Boone's and... Oh! you know what I mean.
