Like the rest of the music world that has
taste, I am saddened that Eddy Arnold has once again been overlooked by
the Kennedy Center.
In a way I am glad because I really do not
think that Eddy belongs with those who are awarded this "honor." No, Eddy
is a decent, honest, upright and moral family man. There are no scandals
associated with him, no criminal record for him to be proud of, no all
night drinking binges or drug abuse in his past. He is even an American
citizen. How could he stand a chance with all these faults against him.
No, Eddy Arnold would add something all of
those chosen for the honor and those who chose them put together lack:
dignity.
There is no need to feel sorry for ourselves.
We know and appreciate Eddy! All the others have to search in vain for
the rest of their lives for what we already have.

I was shocked to say the least as I read today's
USA
Today and the list of the picks for the Kennedy Center Honors!!!
History will prove what we have always known.
"Eddy Arnold is the most underated performer of all time!!!" I guess
those doing the selecting must have something against those who truly excell,
especially in the country field. I will not condemn the picks but
Mr.Arnold should've been in this group. If its a case of lifetime achievement
and extraordinary talents then why not Eddy Arnold. He has always
thought the Kennedy Center would never pick him.

We were working with people more at the end of their careers. But always,

That is producer Stevens' quote. What a joke!
Eddy should have lip-synched his way the past
three years to keep working "at the end of their [his] careers"
What has Rivera and Taylor done for me recently???
Taylor has not done a thing the past 30 years, except try to bail out drug
addicts and homosexuals (aids).

I have always loved Eddy Arnold. I grew up
listening to his music. My mom took me to see him in concert when I
was very young. Eddy was the very first singer
I ever saw. Eddy is the greatest, my mom and I think so (no, we know so).
Keep up the wonderful songs. We love all of your songs, but our two favorite
ones are: "Cattle Call" and "Make The World Go Away". We will always love
you. Keep up the great work.

I have been a fan of Eddy Arnold since 1946.
It was shortly after WW II and I recall how everyone was talking about
this new singer from Nashville and thats when I first heard Eddy sing.
I was fortunate to get to see Eddy twice in Reno. He truly deserves all
honors.

mid to late 60s, I belonged to the Columbia Record and bought a Christmas
album (possibly a rca). I have been hunting for a copy of this particular
record for quite a few years...with no luck (I have come across a Christmas
tape, but not the one I'm looking for (this particular lp had the song...Will

if you could help me. The only lyrics I know of the song are
as follows:
The skies are dark and gray, for a week now
it's been raining. Everyday ......... and hear, the coyote's call
he sings the sun to rest as evening falls. So make a pot of coffee
boys so strong you taste the grain, as he stretches out on his blanket
as he clears his throat to sing. He was simply born to be a cowwwwwwwwwwboy.

It was so good to see Sarah's letter the young fans are a treasure.
In my personal letter to the Kennedy Center, I wrote in part:
There are many like me who have been loyal
fans of Eddy for 40 or 50 years and longer. We have passed our strong
admiration of the man and his music down to our children and grandchildren.
I am happy to say that new followers, young people in their teens and twenty's
are just now discovering the, "Arnold Magic," the beautiful love songs,
ballads, and fun teasing songs that made us fans so many years ago.
Besides being a great singer Eddy's warm personality,
wonderful sense of humor and infectious laugh have endeared him to his
fans. His country boy philosophy and high moral standards have made
him an admirable role model for followers of all ages and generations.
Once one is an Eddy fan they are usually fans for life.
All that read this please tell Eddy why you
like him. Bill will see that he gets your replies and I am sure it
will please him for Eddy has always had a special love for his fans of
all ages.

Just picked up copy of Country Weekly.
Good solid Eddy article with a latest picture. I also noticed "Friends

As I have not had anything done with my PC,
I cannot get to my emails or saved items. I seem to recall Bill S
or Don S. contacting this magazine suggesting an article. Am I correct?
I have a new computer coming in on Monday so everything should be up and
running except any items not saved.
Would anyone have the latest (July) listing
of the people who have endorsed Eddy? Nancy sent me a May lineup
but it was about half of the endorsers. I made the eternal mistake
of not saving it. Any help will be good.

Hi,
I am a big fan of Eddy Arnold...ever since
I saw him in concert in Rhode Island a loooooong time ago (about 30 odd
years ago). Judd Strunk opened for him. The main song I can remember him
singing is the "Tennessee Waltz". The reason I remember that is that it
was my grandmother's favorite song (she passed away a couple weeks ago).

I was lucky enough to see and hear Eddy Arnold
as he rode a horse into the auditorium in downtown Houston, Texas, in 1950,
singing the Cattle Call. What a voice! What a performer! If you can believe
it, I was in Houston attending mortuary school, learning to become an undertaker
and funeral director. But those studies only encouraged me to switch direction,
and I went on to enter medical school, becoming an M.D. physician. I am
now 75, and I regularly sing along with Eddy as I listen to his CD's in
my vehicle. I never cease to enjoy that man's great voice and earnest way
of giving meaning to the words. God bless Eddy Arnold!

I just read the posting of one young 19 year
old Eddy Arnold fan. One who isn't ashamed to admit to loving Eddy's singing...despite
her young age. I just posted a rather long reason why I like Eddy also.
I'd like to think she read it... and decided to tell her reason for liking
Eddy, to all the World. I am part of a "Committee", along with Frank Cunningham,
Nancy Richardson, Bill Shoop, and Web Master of this site Bill Comer. We
have in the past, asked for all of you to write your reason as to why you
like Eddy Arnold. We "The Committee"...are on a Crusade to get Eddy nominated
for the Kennedy Art Center award. We plan on putting all these stories
as to "Why I Like Eddy"...in a binder book and present it to Eddy. Time
is growing short...as the consensus of opinion is that the Kennedy Art
Center will announce there picks in the next few weeks. So why not write
and tell us why you like or even Love as I do.....Eddy's music and voice.
We will add your letter and comments to our growing list. The young 19

when she was little her dad used to play the record over and over and over

wrong, i know eddy and i love eddy, i think he is one of the worlds greatest

The Ambassador of Country Music

We were all asked to write why we like Eddy
Arnold. What isn't there to like about this legend in MUSIC?.
I say music, and not Country music only, because Eddy had many a cross
over hit in his long outstanding career. He himself states, he wants
to be referred to as just a singer...not country....not pop...just a singer.
Well he certainly has been that for more than 60 years..as he really started
singing for a few dollars when he was about 17 - 18 years old. He
came from a large and poor family..and a humble beginning.
His Mother was musically inclined and helped Eddy to play the guitar.
He was to poor to buy a guitar, so he borrowed
his cousins Silvertone guitar purchased from Sears Roebuck Co. catalog.
Eddy soon picked up on several cords,and began his playing and singing.
Later in his young life he took a few lessons on the guitar. He didn't
need voice lessons ....as that came naturally. But after a few lessons
...he learned the names of the cords he had already learned to play himself.
But he didn't know what he was playing....until those few lessons taught
him the names of the cords he was already playing. But life wasn't
easy for Eddy as a young boy...his Father died on Eddy's 11th birthday.
They couldn't keep the payments on a loan...and
lost their family farm. So they became sharecroppers
on their own farm. Eddy needed to plow the fields on his once
owned family farm...and at times other peoples farm to earn a few dollars.
So life didn't come easy for Eddy, as he needed to drop out of school to
help on the farm...but he never gave up pursuing his dream. He started
singing at Church socials and Fish fries....anything, as Eddy put it to
earn a quarter. Later on... singing in a tent show with Minnie Pearl...Jamup
and Honey [ black face duo] Speedy and Uncle Dave Macon. The front
man for this show was soon to be his manager Col. Tom Parker.
Of course he had a great career with Col.
Tom Parker...who later managed Elvis. While doing these tent shows
...Eddy was also appearing on the Opry. This soon became to
much for Eddy. As no matter where in the country they were....they
were obligated to return for a Saturday night appearance on the Opry.
Soon Eddy left the Opry for this.... and one other reason. The Opry
wanted 15 % of his booking....just to announce them on the radio.
So they stopped announcing them on the WSM Grand Ole Opry Show !!!
Because of this 15% to announce your bookings.
Eddy and Col. Tom Parker...soon parted and
...it wasn't long before Eddy quit the Opry. They asked Eddy,
"Eddy how could you do that...the Opry made You !!? Eddy's reply
was ....That's right. But if it made Me.....why didn't it make
the "Fruit Jar Drinkers" [an old fiddle group]? In other words .....who
ever heard of them? So as well as the Opry helped make Eddy....Eddy
sure helped make the Opry. This is the main reason why I feel Eddy
is being overlooked and shunned in so many ways. It is one
thing to be overlooked once or twice...but not every time.
Eddy soon hooked up with Pee Wee King...and had a great start.
But he soon left Pee Wee ..as his main goal was to sing solo. The
rest is history...knocking out 92 top ten hits in his long career....with
28 of these ending in the number one spot. Once having
6 in the ten top at the same time.. To have recorded 1,107
songs is just amazing. At the height of his career in 1971 his son
had a very bad car accident....that almost took his only sons life.
Eddy put his career on hold... and took care of his badly injured son.
This meant carrying him from one room to another
to bathe him. Putting pillows at the bottom of one of those
old galvanized bath tubs. It took a long time for him to recover
from this accident. When he felt he could take gigs close to
home as his son improved ...he did. On one of those occasions....his
wife Sally called him and told him to listen to your Son!!.
He spoke his first word since the accident......"Daddy"....Eddy broke down
in tears ...saying that was the greatest sound he ever heard. This
was the start of a long road back of teaching his son Dickie...to walk...and
talk again. Walter Scott, you need to meet Eddy and his son....I
feel I was blessed in my lifetime in meeting this wonderful man.
Getting back to Eddy's career .....Pee Wee
hated to see him leave....but wished him well. They remained
friends till Pee Wee died in 2000. Even Col. Tom Parker and
Eddy remained friends till his death a few years ago. Eddy
even spoke at Tom's funeral...and remained friends till his death.
Some one once stated, that a hand shake with Eddy is worth more than a
written contract. I can't begin to believe what I am
reading in the July 21, 2002 issue of Parade Magazine. Where
they wrote about who the "Top 10 Greatest Living Country Singers
were" It was written by Walter Scott...who must live in a bubble...or
on some remote island. He lists George Jones as the best...and
names 9 others...but Eddy isn't included on this list.
You can view this list by looking at article
on main page. As others have said, these artist are worth mentioning...but
to leave Eddy completely out is down right discussing. Ask your average
30 or... even forty year old who Eddy Arnold is....and they reply....Eddy
who? These are the same people who are writing these
articles for magazines such as the current issue of Parade Magazine.
But then ask Michael Anthony.... who is a disk jockey from a N.Y.C. Radio
Station WHPC, who is in his 30's. Bill Comer Webmaster
of this site set up an interview with he and Eddy. Here
is a young announcer who did his homework and is an Eddy Arnold fan.
I have heard this interview with him and Eddy...and it is GREAT.

Star almost 3 times my senior saying yes Sir, to me. This truly shows
what type of man Eddy truly is. Most Stars wouldn't even bother
to be interviewed...but it was well worth the interview...just to hear
Eddy laugh. We as a "Committee" with Frank Cunningham, Nancy Richardson,
Bill Shoop, and Bill Comer...have contacted many important people.
To try to get Eddy nominated for the Kennedy Art Center award.
Such people as Congressmen, Senators Mayors...T.V. and Radio personalities,
book Authors...and this list is endless. I even wrote to Shirley
Sheppard....who is a singer / song writer who has sold her songs, into
the millions.
Besides this ...she is Publisher/Editor of
Fla. Country Music News. In one week, 5 of the top 10
songs in the Nation were her creation. Yet she took the time to answer
my email to her... requesting Zeke Thomas email. They are all part
of.. TIAC RADIO. In turn Zeke answered our "Committee" with
and endorsement. We sure want to take the time to thank Ralph
Emery of "Nashville Now" and TNN fame, and author of several books.
For sending in his endorsement for Eddy to be nominated for this award.
His latest book 50 Years Down A Country Road....is dedicated to Eddy Arnold.
I bought the book, and I'm reading it now. On the third
blank page its written........... "To Eddy Arnold...Country music's first
superstar". Think I will send Ralph an Email requesting he
send Walter Scott of Parade Magazine a copy of this book.
I wonder If this guy ever heard of Jeannie
& Bill Walker....who played background music for Eddy.
As Bill's orchestra played ,Jeannie sang back up for Eddy.. she was impressed
with his kindness and sincerity. As she watch from the wings she was captivated
by Eddy's voice, stage presence, and audience appeal.
This is the same Bill Walker who recently finished a 7 year stint backing
up the Statler Brothers. Do I dare mention the most famous
vocal back up group...The Anita Kerr singer's?....who were Eddy's background
singers. Not the other way around..... this is not to say they couldn't
make it on there own.
Just to mention a few more names for this
Walter Scott of Parade Magazine. I saw Eddy In concert 5 times....with
George Gobel, Boots Randolph, The Lennon Sisters, and the Jordanaires.
All these great stars were opening up acts for Eddy. If that's not
ringing any bells for Mr. Scott.....how about the 42 sessions {126 songs}
Floyd Cramer played background piano for Eddy. Also the 86 sessions Chet
Atkins backed Eddy .....I'm sorry I didn't count how many songs there were
in these sessions...as there were so many. Plus many of these
sessions included Chet on the guitar...and Floyd on the piano at the same
time. Pretty impressive to say the least.
Eddy and his lovely wife Sally.... will be
celebrating their 61st wedding anniversary this Nov. 28th.
He retired from performing in May of 1999...after charting in 5 decades.
After he retired.... up and coming Star, 14 yr. old Lee Ann Rimes....just
signed a contract with Mike Curb of Curb records. She had all
ready had a huge hit with "Blue"....but she wanted to sing Cattle Call....Eddys
signature song. Mike Curb was a good friend of Eddys....and
asked Lee Ann...if she would like to sing a duet with the man that did
the earlier version. She agreed....and Mike called Eddy....and
Eddy agreed to sing it with her. I hope you noticed... she
didn't ask to sing with one of the 10 best Country Artist named on Walter
Scotts list.
They recorded it, and it soon charted at the
end of 1999 making 6 decades he charted in....it carried over briefly
into 2000. Making him the only artist to chart in 7 straight
decades. A remarkable feat to say the least. It
is coming close to the Kennedy Art Center nominating time.
In Ralph Emery's book he talks about many country stars....and their jaded
past. It is a known fact Hank Williams was a heavy drinker.....as
was another one of Walter Scotts 10 top picks...the late Patsy Cline.
I love her singing...she had a great voice. But I can
think of no one who deserves the Kennedy Art Center nomination more than
Eddy Arnold. He wasn't a booser....happily married for almost
61 years....and a great family man. Upon retiring he said "I
want to give the remaining years I have left....to my lovely Wife....she
has spent many, many, years with me on the road. Eddy
is a very wealthy man...but values the love of his devoted fans. Every
Eddy Arnold fan has him on the top of their list...... are you listening...Mr.
Scott. God bless You Eddy, and you lovely wife Sally.
Good luck....they can't ignore you for ever....we Eddy fans won't let them.

I also read an article in my local paper this
AM about a group playing Hank Williams, Sr. music and the writer listed
some of his songs that were performed by others. I did not recognize any
of the performers and strangely, Tony Bennet was not mentioned. Tony had
a number one hit of Willams, "Cold., Cold, Heart"
The real problem today with newspaper writers
and other types is the lack of research in writing their articles.
The young lady writing the Williams' article
had "Google" as her source for the information. She probably never heard

has not done his research well. If he had chosen to read Joel Whitburn's
Billboard Researched Book "The Country Singles " he would have found Eddy

out two things:The availability of tickets to the event and the possibility
of Eddy's selection. First the honorees will be announced the last
of this month or the first of next. Same Difference I guess.

All other country performers and many pop
singers were still trying to get from radio and into television. Only super
stars at the time were on TV and so another super star had his own show:
July 14th- "The Eddy Arnold Show" premiered
on CBS-TV; 1952
There were not many performers on TV 50 years
ago. Perry Como, Arthur Godfrey, Red Skelton, Milton Berle, Sid Caeser,
to name a few, were on but I do not recall Frank Sinatra or any of the
"crooners" as yet. TV was still black and white and shut off about 1 AM.
You had to be tops in your field of entertainment
to get on TV at the time. Eddy Arnold had his own TV show while Willie
Nelson and Johnny Cash were just graduating High School.

I was very surprised back in the 60's moving north into Maryland and finding
so many country fans. Eddy Arnold was one of my favorites. My mother-in-law

Last night I watched a Kraft Music Hall TV
show video from 1969 with Mr. Eddy Arnold as the Star of the show.
Two things about the show stood out in my
mind based on our efforts to Have Eddy honored by the Kennedy Center.
1-Tom Seaver was a "guest star" on the show
2-Edward Villella was announced by Eddy as
an upcoming "guest star" on the show.
For our information, Tom Seaver has received
baseball's highest honor in being elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
Edward Villella has received his country's highest honor in being selected
by the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
The reason I have quotes around guest star

has his own show what does that make Eddy Arnold, a super star? Again,
if in both cases they have their industry and country's highest honors
should not the super star not have his country's highest honors?

I logged to the EA web site last week and
heard 2 songs: One was "America" AND "My Daddy's Only A Picture"
Today they are not on there and the Jukebox doesn't work on my computer.
Have I done something or is there suppose to be something else I am to
do. I do often listen to the music as I don't have a CD player in
my house, except on the computer. I listen to the MANY songs on MANY
CD's in my car. I would appreciate any help on this matter. By the
way, the picture of you and your lovely wife is great. Glad to see

Came to USA in 1946. Lived in Little Rock,
Arkansas '47-'51). Everything on radio there was "Country Music" with a
lot of Eddy Arnold. I thought he was great then and I still do! He's always
been a class act, professionally and as a human being, often a rarity in
the entertainment profession! He's a credit to the industry, to the USA
and to the human race! Continued good health and good humor!

Howdy everyone! I wrote my Arizona Rep. Jim
Kolbe concerning nominating Dr. Arnold for the Kennedy honor, and he wrote
to the center, and the response he and I got was that Dr. Arnold would
be included in their considerations as a recipient. I'm sorry I lost the
letter, or I would quote it. I have just about worn out my new Eddy Arnold
CD's "Looking Back", and "Seven Decades of Hits." One of my favorite songs
on the "Decades" album is "To Life." But truly I love them all!

We own a 38' Owens Cabin Cruiser that we believe
was previously owned by Eddy Arnold. It is a 1953 (we think). We are about
to sell it again, and didn't want to use his name unless this information
was true. Did Dr. Arnold ever own such a boat? It has a mahoghoney hull
, and a teakwood deck.
We have always enjoyed Eddy's music. It is
fun to think that we own something that he once owned.

HI ~ ALL EDDY ARNOLD FANS !!!!
I was surfing the net today, as I do so many
times. I was looking up Floyd Cramer, who played piano on many sessions
for Eddy. It is interesting to note while reading this biography on Floyd
Cramer...written by Sherry Anderson of Countrypolitan.com, there is no
mention of Eddy Arnold. Yet she goes on to mention several other artist
he played for. Recently when Chet Atkins died...on the News they mentioned
several artist who Chet produced for. These included Roy Orbison..the Everly
Bros....Perry Como and Elvis...but no mention of Eddy. These were the same
artist listed in Floyd Cramers biography. When I heard this, I looked up
the sessions Chet produced for Eddy. I was astounded that I counted 86
sessions...and a lot of these included Floyd Cramer on these sessions.
I didn't count how many songs this included..but I'm sure it was many.
So today I looked up how many sessions Floyd Cramer played on. My source
was Michael Streissguth's book..."Pioneer Of The Nashville Sound" Today
I counted 42 sessions that Floyd Cramer played on. In these sessions starting
Dec.5,1957...and ending July 9&10th,1968...I counted 216 individual
songs he played with Eddy. As stated before many of these sessions also
included Chet. It is a known fact by most Eddy fans how Eddy is constantly
being overlooked or shunned. I love both Chet and Floyd..but this Sherry
Anderson states that along with Chet Atkins,Boots Randolph & Owen Bradley.
That they helped create the Nashville sound. I could except this if Eddy
was included in this. Even Chet & Floyd talked about working for Eddy...not
the other way around. If anyone is responsible for creating the Nashville
sound it sure is Eddy. That's why Michael Streissgurt's book is titled..."Eddy
Arnold, Pioneer Of The Nashville Sound". The trouble is many people don't
seem to comprehend the word "Pioneer". Also Boot's Randolph as good as
he is...was the opening act for Eddy when I saw Eddy in concert. Yet the
News media...and a lot of other just aren't getting it...and exclude Eddy
from all this he so richly deserves. I just hope the Kennedy Arts Center...doesn't
follow this trend. It is about time that the World knows about Dr.Eddy
Arnold and..... His World. Don Stewart.

Center. We had tickets to see Eddy at Wisconsin Dells, but he retired shortly
before that concert.
