Formerly the leader of a jazz band, the groups only hit was released under the name Mike Cotton's Jazzmen, but Cotton would change his musical style towards R&B with the coming of beat music. They started the sixties playing Trad Jazz with a female vocalist and ended them as a soul band backing Zoot Money. In between, they had been, at varying times, a rock 'n' roll, blues and r'n'b band. During their era they were one of the busiest groups in the country, running their own career alongside backing visiting American acts such as Solomon Burke, Stevie Wonder, the Four Tops and Gene Pitney. Additionally, they somehow managed to find time to squeeze in another role, that of session musicians for other popular performers. They later concentrated their efforts on session work. Singles
