Les Fleur de Lys were formed towards the end of 1964 in Southampton and began to build a reptation playing at local youth clubs, parties and pubs. In '65 they won a recording contract with Immediate after being spotted at a London gig.

Their first release was a rocked-up version of Buddy Holly's "Moondreams", produced by Jimmy Page. When the record failed to make any impression, the first line-up of the group disbanded.

Drummer Keith Guster (the only constant factor throughout the groups' various line-up changes) pur together another version of the band, recruiting, among others, ex- Cheynes and Shotgun Express guitarist Phil Sawyer. With Page once again producing, they recorded a version of Pete Townshend's "Circles". By this time they were building a good reputation on London's club circuit and even got involved in a Jimi Hendrix session, recording two tracks with the great guitarist - both of which would remain unissued.

During the summer of '66 vocalist Chris Andrews was added to the group, Sawyer left to join The Spencer Davis Group and was replaced by Bryn Haworth and they switched from Immediate to Polydor for their third record "Mud In Your Eye".

They later worked as a backing group for Aretha Franklin and Isaac Hayes, and especially South African singer Sharon Tandy, among others.

Fleur de Lys finally disintegrated altogether in the late 60's.
