Checklist of the Collembola: Key to the species of Alloscopus

This key is still under construction. Note that missing figures will be provided as soon as possible. Currently, the key is in the feasibility study phase to find out how to integrate in the checklist in a modular way a key that has been generated with DELTA.

Rationale

The rationale for taxa used and not used as well as subtaxonomic classification for some taxa is to be provided.

Key

Note that no distinction between subtaxa and taxa is made in the key.

1(0). Head seta m1 placed close to a3, distance m1-a3/a3-a0<2.5..... 2
Head seta m1 placed far back from a3, distance m1-a3/a3-a0>2.6..
         ................................................. tenuicornis

2(1). Second thoracic segment with 4 pm macrochaetae................ 3
Second thoracic segment with 5 pm macrochaetae................ 4

3(2). L1 ciliated; labium with 2-4 scales; lateral anal valve each
with 0-1 smooth setae; head macrochaeta m3 absent; tibiotarsi
        without smooth setae.............................. tenuicornis 1
L1 smooth; labium with 0-1 scale; lateral anal valve each with 2
smooth setae; head macrochaeta m3 present; tibiotarsi at inner
margin with 2 longitudinal rows of smooth setae.. tetracanthus

4(2). Dens with 27-55 spines arranged in 2 rows; third thoracic
        segment with 7 setae............................ multispinatus
Dens with 3-5 spines arranged in 1 row; third thoracic segment
        with 6 setae................................................ 5

5(4). Outer pair of labral papillae not strongly conelike; tibiotarsi
        without smooth setae........................................ 6
Outer pair of labral papillae strongly conelike; tibiotarsi with
several rows of smooth setae....................... deharvengi

6(5). Outer pair of labral papillae rounded, with small lateral
        conelike projections............................ thailandensis
Outer pair of labral papillae rounded, without small lateral
        conelike projections................................. strebeli

Endnotes
