Remark by Deharveng, L. 1981 (cfr Greenslade, P., 2007.10.09:in litt.): This species probably belongs in the genus Pseudokatianna because it lacks the generic character of spines on the head according to the figures. |
Remark by Greenslade, P. 2007.10.09:in litt.: Taking into consideration the form of the mucro, the chaetotaxy of the dens, the slight antennal annulation and other features, the species probably is not a Pseudokatianna but may belong in Polykatianna, especially as Denis noted it had conspicuous interocular bosses. However, neither of these two genera are well defined, so the correct generic placement for this species is not possible to determine at present. |
Remark by Ellis, W.N. & Bellinger, P.F. 1973:28: Nicolet, 1847 described new species from Chile. These are also described by Nicolet in Gay, 1851[lapsus for Nicolet in Gay, 1849]. But in the first paper Nicolet cites as author of the species Nicol. in Gay. Evidently the publications appeared in a reversed order. |
Remark by ICZN. 2007:759: Placed on the Official List of Names in Zoology. Opinion 1027. |

Remark by Ellis, W.N. & Bellinger, P.F. 1973:54: Stenognathellus Cassagnau, 1953 is an unavailable name (art. 13b): type species not designated. |
Remark by Delamare Deboutteville, C. & Massoud, Z. 1964:75: A French translation of the original generic diagnosis of Vesicephalus Richards, W.R. (1956:79, unpublished thesis) was published. |
Remark by Bretfeld, G. 1999:98: The new monophylum Katiannida Breteld, 1986 contains the Katiannidae Börner, 1913 sensu Betsch, 1980 and the genera incertae sedis sensu Betsch, 1980 and Bretfeld, 1986, including Vesicephalus Richards in Delamare Deboutteville & Massoud, 1964, based on two diagnostic apomorphies: 1. the presence of 2 additional outer setae Ka and Kp distally at the tibiotarsus; 2. the presence of spatulate setae distally at the tibiotarsus. |
Remark by Fauna Europaea 2005: Family placement is uncertain. Vesicephalus is intermediate between Katiannidae (anal appendage in females) and Sminthuridae (dorsal chaetotaxy). |
