Whether we celebrate Passover, Easter, Wesak, Beltane, or any
other spring holiday, we celebrate renewal, rebirth, freedom,
and peace. Freedom and peace are not free, nor are they rights;
these are two of our most precious privileges.
Our most effective method in the pursuit of peace and freedom
(or anything else) is using our own heart and mind. What we
think and feel...how we maintain our attitude and live our
lives...is the key to making it a reality.
We must walk our
talk.
The message below was an e-mail message sent to the school that plants the seed of a tremendous thought: "One Day In Peace" (total, global, interdisciplinary, interactive). A goal has been set for the end of the Century. I encourage you to appreciate most the concluding thought:
And what if the television programmers of the world agreed to not air any programming with a violent content? (It would probably be easier to get warring nations to stop firing than it would be to get the world's television programmers to not air violent programming!)
This is a thought-wave campaign. Which is to say, the more people who grasp this thought, the more it comes into reality...
There would be 57 Asians, 21 Europeans, 14 from the Western Hemisphere (North and South) and 8 Africans.
51 would be female; 49 would be male.
70 would be non-white; 30 white.
70 would be non-Christian; 30 Christian.
Half of the entire world's wealth would be in the hands of only 6 people and all 6 would be citizens of the United States.
80 would live in substandard housing.
70 would be unable to read.
50 would suffer from malnutrition.
1 would be near death , 1 would be near birth.
Only 1 would have a college education.
No one would own a computer.
When one considers our world from such an incredibly compressed perspective, the need for both tolerance and understanding becomes glaringly apparent.
