Subject: Re: William MONCRIEF
Good morning Kay!
My Samuel Moncrief would have been born c1767/8, in either Currituck Co NC or Wilkes Co GA (depending on exactly when his father came to GA). I'm reasonably certain he was a son of Josiah Moncrief based on the property records for Wilkes Co GA in the 1790s. There are many Moncrief researchers who contend that my Samuel was the son of William Alexander Moncrief and Martha Ferebee. I'm hoping that they will have some documentation to share along those lines.
I can't help very much with your Moncrief line I'm afraid, but I'll try to help a little. The William Moncrief listed in the 1790 Currituck Co census could not be the father of your William. He is the William Alexander Moncrief married to Martha Ferebee that I mentioned above, born 1744 and died 1795, so he was actually the same generation as your William. This William did have a son named William, but he was born 1785 and died 1873.
William Alexander Moncrief's father was also William. Now this William had a brother named Thomas who you might want to look at. I don't have any descendants for this Thomas Moncrief, but he might just be a father or grandfather for your William. The reason I say that is that I noticed that your William Moncrief named a James Brunt as executor of his will (could Brunt be the same name as Brent?). I have that on 2 Apr 1735, Thos Moncrief, along with Nehemiah Heath was the security on an Administrator's bond for a John Brent.
Thanks, and I hope this will help you out some.
