Tahan River

This national park of Malaysia is said to be 130 million years old - the world's oldest tropical virgin rainforest.

Not a bad place to spend the long weekend and test out my new wide angle L lens. It is cheap as long as you keep away from the luxurious accommodation. The night train from Singapore takes about 6.5 hours to reach Jerantut. You will then take a 3 hours boat ride the next morning into the park center.

It is not necessary to hire a guide if you are not planning to venture deep into the forest. You can easily find you way in the well beaten trail with prominent sign posts. And if you are tired of walking, you can always hire a boat and have a relaxed cruise along the river.

Avoid going there on a Malaysia long weekend. The whole park is crowded and accommodation runs short. And you will have to queue for hours for the Canopy walk. I cheated by going to the end point and managed to snap a picture of myself walking on the canopy.
