He attended the University of Mississippi, and served during the civil war in the confederate army, and was twice a member of the Mississippi state legislature. He is a successful merchant and lawyer of San Angelo, Texas; has served with distinction as a member of the Texas state legislature; and for four years was commissioner of the general land office of Texas.
