When I was a child ,I was not allowed to have any pets. I know I needed one, because I was the youngest and only girl living in this huge house with no one to play with. My brothers were both married and out. I spent long hours alone, and would have loved a cat (or dog), to follow after me, as I climbed trees, sat by the brook, walked in the woods or played in the top floor with my zillion toys. I certainly would have given a kitty, doll clothes to wear and put her in my doll carriage!!

In the 1940's, my time was spent, in front of a miniscule T.V, watching Howdy Doody, The Long Ranger, Sid Ceasar, Ed Sullivan, and oh, that guy with the Lennon Sisters and the Bubbles? lol. When I wasnt doing that I was playing with trading cards, playing solitaire, or listening to the radio. Shows like, The Creaking Door, Dallas Faces Life, Amos and Andy and Jack Benny. Im sure a cat would have been good company. She could have let me read to her as I devored books as fast as I could get them. My favorite was The Nancy Drew Books, Heidi, and The Yearling.

But, most of all, I would have loved a kittie to curl up in bed with me at night so that I wouldnt feel alone and frightened. Well, since 1961, when I first married, I have lost track of all the cats I have owned. They have a esp/radar system, I am sure, that they all use, to come to my door no matter where I live, wipe their feet on my door mat, emblaisoned with the word "SUCKER", and move in. I have this thing for a meow or cry for help and I think that is why I became a Registered Nurse.
