From our special reporter Chloe in Adelaïde

As I sit here at the computer now, my small dog, Cindy, bounds in like an excited dear and licks my hand affectionately. Cindy is a Chihuahua, which is a breed of dog from Mexico.

If I tilt my head just a little to the right of the computer screen. I can see clearly the view of outside through a small laundry window. austr2a.JPG (55530 bytes)

Adelaide, as some of you may know, is the capital of the state of South Australia, the state right next to Western Australia, right below the Northern Territory, and adjacent to Queensland. I have lived here all my life, and know practically the whole city like the back of my hand!

Anyway, outside is our huge back garden.

Huge Gum trees tower above the house, which is pretty big, so that means that some of the trees are up to 20 metres tall! [you may have to covert metres, sorry, I don't know American terms]

They are quite a nuisance, as they always drop bark and olive-green gum leaves all over the ground, and in major storms, sometimes fall over onto power lines and cause black-outs all over the city!

How I met Princess
One day, when I walked outside one Summer, I looked up to see a Cockatoo high in the gum trees. If you don't know what a Cockatoo is, I'll tell you. A cockatoo is, I think, native to Australia. They are usually snow-shite in colour, and have a large yellow mohawk.

This mohawk is just a layer of feathers, but when they get excited or scared, the feathers pop up into a fan shape on their heads! They make a sound like a cat screaming, and sometimes look like they are dancing by the way they bounce up and down! They can be tamed and can even learn to talk! Anyway, I looked up and saw a Cockatoo sitting there, holding a piece of bark in its claws and chewing on it.

I called up to it, and it dropped the bark on my face! I saw this cockatoo a few times after, and named her Princess. I also have a trampoline in my backyard, and when I bounce on it high enough, I can see far around! As a matter of fact, right now as I type, Princess is sqauking outside!

What I do at school
I am 12 years old and I go to Highschool, Primary School. Around 27 people are in each class, girls and boys. My classroom walls are always decorated with some kind of artwork, and my favourite subject is English. I love to write stories, and some day I wish to be a real newspaper journalist!

We do sport once a day, and everybody in our school of around 450 people from ages 5 to 13 are in one house colour for sports: red, green, yellow or blue. I am in the blue team. On one day each year, we have a sports day, where the teams compete in events. This year, green won, followed by yellow, red, then blue.

Bye, till next time, Chloe.
