"The Wonder Years" recreates the experience of growing up in suburban America in the 60's and 70's through the eyes of 12-year-old everyboy Kevin Arnold (Fred Savage).
Kevin, our pre-teen (and later teen-aged) hero, is guide and narrator via his off screen grown-up
voice (provided by Daniel Stern). Kevin's growing pains mirror those of America itself, all set to popular music from the era. In Kevin's own words, it was a time "when a kid could still go for a long walk alone at dusk without ending up on a milk carton." Kevin's allies in his young quest include his nerdy best friend Paul Pfeiffer (Josh Saviano); and his first true love, Winnie Cooper (Danica McKeller), who is everything a boy could ever want in a girlfriend next door.
The Arnolds are a typical struggling 60's family. Norma Arnold (Alley Mills) and Jack Arnold (Dan Lauria) are Kevin's conventional and--particularly in his Dad's case-- emotionally distant parents. His flower-child sister Karen (Olivia D'Abo) and tormenting older brother Wayne (Jason Hervey) provide Kevin's life and antics with a realistic, funny, and often touching context.
The Wonder Years premiered January 31, 1988, immediately after the Super Bowl, and enjoyed a long and successful run until the final episode on May 15, 1993.
