This station does stand out with its two live weeknight syndicated personalities: The inspiration filled love song and dedication hostess, Delilah, and Dave Wingert. Wingert’s show, Dave til Dawn, is a surprisingly nice blend of AC music and light comedy. These shows can be heard on a handful of online stations. So, this is a decent enough station that I can only recommend if this type of music is your cup of tea, and you have crappy FM reception at home or work.
Webcast bonus: Music replacing the on-air commercial breaks.

The daytime schedule is a mix of adult standards/pop music and the most interesting talk shows you’re likely to hear anywhere. They’re mostly of a specialty nature; shows on health, food, astrology, and entertainment are just a few. The best of these shows is “Coffee An’…” a panel radio show that’s actually done in their TV studio next door. You can see and hear the show on via the station’s webcast (more on that later).
During the evening and overnight hours, it’s all about the music. And an interesting mix of tunes it is. I don’t know too many stations AM or FM that will play “Come On-A My House” by Rosemary Clooney, and “Breathless” by The Coors in the same hour! The one downside is there’s no air talent at night to go along with the music, but being a small station like this, it’s understandable. The true variety of music they play makes for good listening. And that variety expands on the weekends; an all Elvis hour, country and polka music are some of the different types of music played to make up a very diverse, yet family-friendly schedule.
The added bonus of tuning into WOON via the net is the webcam. You can see and hear all the fun that goes in their studio. When no one is at the mic, you see a live shot of downtown Woonsocket. If your never seen a sunrise or sunset on a webcam set against music, it certainly is a different experience (of course, seeing the real thing with your own eyes is always better).
Oh yes, if you still wonder just how “local” this station is; I know of no other radio station in North America that broadcasts its towns city council and school board meetings live. Check out WOON, and enjoy this true local radio outlet.

The FNX “network” is actually WFNX-FM in Boston heard on five radio stations that cover most of the New England states between them.
This is a standard alternative rocker with an ok-sized playlist. The main attraction of FNX Radio is that it’s 100% live and local. No “voice tracked” D.J’s from out-of-town, no syndicated programming. Everything on this station, you can’t hear anywhere else. That’s becoming a very rare commodity in commercial radio these days.
So, what will you hear when you tune in/log on? Comedy (most of it a bit on the raunchy side) mixed in with the music both in the morning and afternoon. One often heard tag line for the afternoon shift, Storm and Birdsey is, “You can’t be offended if you don’t listen”. In a two-week period, I listened to bits that ranged from childish and plain dumb to ones that really made me laugh. Their theme song is certainly one of-a-kind. (I can’t really begin to describe it here; you just have to listen around 3pm Eastern/Noon Pacific) Overall, you have your typical “Bad Boy D.J.” shows that will probably offend the politically correct who probably aren’t listening to alternative rock radio in the first place. For me, the standout air talent at FNX Radio is Julie Kramer. Her show is easy to listen to; she knows her music and the artists really well, and she apparently has psychic powers. Her favorite method of taking requests is by telepathy! Ok, let’s see – (sending thought patterns 3000 miles east) “…Oingo Boingo…Oingo Boingo…Oingo Boingo…” Well, we’ll see how that works out. Anyway her show is a good change of pace from the attitude the station seems to adopt the rest of the day.
Weekend programming is nicely eclectic. Techno and Rave mixes Friday and Saturday nights; Contemporary Jazz on Sunday mornings (a nice touch); and a Gay and Lesbian issues talk show rounding things out Sunday nights. High marks for FNX Radio. It’s very worth checking out.

This 50,000-watt powerhouse is the number 1 radio station in Central and Eastern Maine. After listening for a few hours, it’s easy to see why. First, Stephen King owns the station. Yes, that Stephen King! It's just a little side enterprise he and his wife, Tabitha run in their hometown. Still --- it's Stephen King, so you know it has to be cool, right? This little FM station is cool, and then some! It’s AOR radio just like Mama used to make! Lots and lots of rock music from the late 60’s to now. Much more of a variety than most “classic rock” stations play nowadays. They don’t use gimmick days or weekends to play the “rare” songs, because the D.J.‘s here constantly rifle through the entire music library on a daily basis. There is also enough new music played to keep the sound fresh. The new stuff (they keep a list of 31 cuts on the their web site) is all REAL rock music, and none of that rap-rock crap!
There are no shock-jocks here. No “in-your-face” attitudes. Nor does any of the air talent at WKIT sound boring. It’s kick back, pop open a cold one, and let’s all enjoy some rock and roll! But wait --- there’s more!! WKIT throws in genuine Blues music twice a day and 2 hours on Monday for good measure. Kenny Wayne Shepherd, B.B. King, Elmore James, A.C Reed; the list is truly endless. Who says there’s no diversity in commercial radio anymore? Add to all that top-notch syndicated programs like “Dee Synder’s House of Hair”, “House of Blues Radio Hour”, “Rockline”, “Off the Record”, and “Dr. Demento”!
Their most often used liner is “The Rock and Roll Zone, where you control the Rock and Roll”. I have put this claim to the test personally on several occasions. Nine times out of ten, my request was played, and I made some pretty “out-there” requests. So, take a bow Mr. King! A nice little radio station you have here J.
