Murph's World - Site History

For the interested, Murph's World was first posted on the web 1 Sep 1997 on GeoCities at http://www.oocities.org/CaptitolHill/1622/ The intent was to create a site rich in commentary and history. The history section never worked to my satisfaction and the idea was dropped. The site lurched in fits and starts, and only began to be workable over time.

Murph's World - VIEW - a commentary site has slowly grown and evolved, offering a world view of a progressive leftist nature. Development remains an on-going process.

In December of 1998 the existing Murph's World - BETWEEN THE COVERS - a book site was extensively revised and the Bibliographies section moved to a solo page. Murph's Library was incorporated into BTC and links to amazon.com were revised. On the Nightstand was added 22 Dec 1998 with appropriate graphic links to amazon.com. Updates to this page are frequent and reflect on-going reading.

Future plans for BTC include amazon.com links from the Top 10 Films page, perhaps music links and a rework of the Library.

04 Mar 1999 -- VIEW -- Content of the Rantz and Raves section was folded into the Short Takes section and the Rantz and Raves section was eliminated. Out-dated articles were moved to a 1998 Archives subsection.

10-15 May 1999 -- The graphic on the PASSIONS page was revised. Likewise, the graphics were amended on the television and radio pages. A byline was also placed on the radio page. And, virtually all META tags were revised/updated.

28 May - 01 Jun 1999 -- Work was done on the site map page, making the map interactive.

18 Nov 1999 -- Murph's World - THEATER OF THE MIND - a radio site -- Copy on the page was expanded and audio files for visitor download were added. Additional files will appear / disappear on the 1st and 15th of the month.

08 Mar 2000 -- Murph's World - BETWEEN THE COVERS - a book site -- The complete 31-chapter text of Upton Sinclair's novel "The Jungle," was transplanted from an alternate site to a subdirectory of BETWEEN THE COVERS.

16 to 21 Jun 2000 -- Murph's World - BETWEEN THE COVERS was revised extensively - primarily by breaking down an oversized single-page into separate easier-to-read pages.

17 Jul to 01 Aug 2000 -- Murph's World - BETWEEN THE COVERS - a book site -- The complete text of Richard Henry Dana, Jr.'s "Two Years Before the Mast" has been added to the site.

05 to 06 Dec 2001 -- A number of inactive and/or dead-end pages have been eliminated. A new color scheme was implemented.
