JAMES WILLIAM "J. W." SINGLETON, SR., age 89, of North Little Rock, Ark. passed away Thursday evening, December 7, 2006 in Hospice House at Little Rock, Ark. following a brief illness. He was born in Harrisburg, Ark. on May 28, 1917 to Alma Pearl (Young) and Elvis Lacy Singleton. Mr. Singleton graduated from Marked Tree, Ark. in 1938. He was the founder and owner of Singleton Amusement Company for more than 40 years. Mr. Singleton was a World War II veteran in the European American Theatre. In 1944, he received training as an electrician at the Naval Training School St. Louis, Mo. before being deployed to Plymouth, England. He was transferred to Devon, England where he was discharged in 1945. J. W. was a former member of the Marked Tree American Legion and member of Heber Springs American Legion Post 64 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3465. He attended and was a 47 year member of the Park Hill Baptist Church.

     Survivors include his wife Minnie (Manley) Singleton whom he married on June 5, 1939; daughter, Anne Singleton Condran (husband John) of Muncie, Indiana; son James William Singleton, III (wife Jannette); grandson David Gover (wife Marilyn); and granddaughter Catherine Trinkle (husband Troy) of Avon, Indiana; great-granddaughters Claire Trinkle and Sophia Trinkle of Avon; brother Elvis Singleton (wife Sidney); and sister June Dean of Warner Robbins, Georgia.; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son James William Singleton, Jr. on March 19, 1965, brother Don Emery Singleton, and brother-in-law Frank Dean.

     Services will be held in The North Little Rock Funeral Home 11:00 a.m.,  Monday, December 11, 2006. Burial will follow in Arkansas Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at The North Little Rock Funeral Home, 1921 Main St., 758-1170 from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Park Hill Baptist Church, 201 East C.
