Hagen visits America These pages are dedicated to Hagen Meyer... who was a guest in our home for 3 weeks during Fall '98. On the day he left for his return trip to Germany I gave him a small American flag that I purchased in June for Flag Day. It was fitting that the last words we heard from him as he waved his flag out the window was "Has anyone seen my ticket?"

I overheard Heather tell another one of the host mothers... "Please... somebody find his ticket!"

Germans & host families
Twelve students (and a teacher) from Seevetal, Germany... Decatur's "Sister City"... spent one of their three-week school breaks in America. The visitors are shown in the photo above, along with their hosting families.

The visitors on Day #1 Ryan spent two weeks in Tokorazawa, Japan (Decatur's other "Sister City") this summer. To show our appreciation to the Decatur Sister Cities committee we agreed to host a Seevetal student.

Hagen Meyer (16-yrs old) was our guest for three weeks.  He has studied English for 6 yrs and in his first e-mail to us asked how many years Ryan had studied German.
Answer: Ryan has studied Spanish for 4 years!

Ryan & Hagen    Hagen & Britta
Hagen and Britta Feldsmann (right photo above) attended classes at Stephen Decatur High School with Ryan, while (8) students attended MacArthur High School and (2) attended St.Teresa High School. The photos above were taken in the parlor on the night of the Homecoming dance.

Homecoming '98
The formal photo to the left was taken at MacArthur High School's Homecoming '98 dance. It was an opportunity for the Seevetal students to experience the autumn American traditions of high school football, marching bands and homecoming festivities.
