Ryan's date for his first prom was Katrina Duncan. They were both juniors at Stephen Decatur High School. Students in Decatur dress in formal wear, have dinner at a nice area restaurant, attend the dance... and most of them go to an all-night "Post Prom" party that's sponsored by the Booster Club.
The Post Prom event takes place at our local YMCA. Activities are scheduled throughout the entire building, including basketball, racquetball, dancing to a DJ, swimming, billiards and the biggest draw: gambling! The Booster Club has a couple of craps tables and lots of cards for the blackjack tables. Students win "money" that they can use to buy items that have been donated by area businesses and/or purchased by the Booster Club. Baseball tickets, boom boxes, TV's, refrigerators, etc. typical of the things they can purchase. |
