Herald & Review article Every year the three public high schools in Decatur split up the "parade duty". This year was Stephen Decatur's year to participate in the Labor Day parade.

Redcoat Marching Band practices start at "Band Camp" in early August, where students work on their music and their show. Competitions take place throughout the Central Illinois area. Half-time shows at the Friday night football games also highlight the band's talents.

If you look carefully at the left-hand side of the photo you can see half of Ryan's face... get out the magnifying glass!

SDHS Redcoats Marching Band
Ryan is a low-brass section leader in the Redcoat band. He plays trombone. This year their show includes the music of Paul Simon with tunes such as "You can call me Al" and "Bridge of Troubled Waters".

Ryan Stoa The varsity football season has been cancelled for this year. There weren't enough juniors and seniors willing to play football. Last Friday evening the SDHS band performed at the football field, and there will be additional performances during soccer games.

Stephen Decatur school spirit is not dead simply because there's no varsity football this year. The new principal is taking steps to ensure that next year's season will not be cancelled. It'll be too late for Ryan... but the underclassmen will benefit by his efforts.
