WASHINGTON, "J" and the BSA! In 1998, the BSA and the Washington Erving MotorSports Team unveiled the "Scout Show Car," a nonracing prototype of a NASCAR automobile that will be used to help recruit youth and adults into Scouting. |

The Washington Erving MotorSports Team? NBA legend Julius "Dr. J" Erving has teamed with former NFL running back Joe Washington (both former Boy Scouts) and two North Carolina executives, Fields Jackson Jr. and Kathy Thompson to create "Washington Erving Motor Sports."Their racing operation is located in Lexington North Carolina. From this shop they field their #50 Chevy Monte Carlo's on the Busch Grand National Series. Washington Erving Motor sports is the first minority owned race team to complete a full season on the NASCAR circuit since the infamous Wendell Scott over a quarter of a century ago. Building on this uniqueness both Joe and Julius have committed to building an awareness of the Boy Scouts programs, especially in urban areas, by providing two BSA #50 show cars that tour the country and help with Boy Scout recruitment of youth and volunteers. The cars, which feature BSA "Character Counts" logos, will appear at local council events, automobile showrooms, NASCAR races, and major-league football, basketball, baseball, and hockey games. The team will also provide celebrity appearances and autograph sessions at selected events. The following resources will help you learn more about this great Scouting tool, and how you can use it within your program! |
