First Things First!

First of all, are you a Geocities resident? If not it's easy to join! If you have already found a home on Geocites, then you are in the right place.

To build your home on the web, you will need to start at the File Manager. The File Manager is where you will store all your files, images, midis, etc. From the File Manager page you enter your member name and your password. Once you are inside your File Manager you need to scroll down to the bottom of the page and see if you see the EZ - File Upload section on the left side of the screen. If you don't see this, then you need to visit this site to help you download a FTP program to help you move your files from your hard drive to Geocities.

Make sure to visit your Quick Start Guide in your File Manager.

Your first mission is to build your homepage. You should name this page index.html. Make sure you use all lower case letters and html. You can name your other files anything you choose.

I strongly recommend that you visit the Quik Start Quide for Homebuilding. This is not the site located in File Manger. This site is a great tutorial.

Do you need graphics, visit the Heartland graphics and I also have some graphic references. Make sure when you are loading graphics to link them to your own site and not the person who has made the graphics available to you. This is VERY important! To save a graphic to your hard drive, right click on the mouse and save it to your OWN hard drive. NEVER link to the graphic artist's site!!!

TheGeo-Guide is a wonderful way to bring visitors to your web site!

Are your graphics missing? 1st check your spelling and remember that everything is case sensitive. Make sure that you have uploaded your graphics to GeoCities.

Be sure to check out the Heartland Headquarters for all the latest news on Heartland Happenings! If you are a new resident, don't forget to pick up your housewarming gifts! You also need to register your page so everyone can find your fantastic new cyberhome. You need to make sure that your page meets all the Geocities guidelines. When you think you are ready, who not submit your page to theCritique & Review Committee? They will give you an honest appraisal of your site.

Once you are up and running, check out all that the Heartland has to offer you as a resident.
