HERE ARE THREE
OF MY POEMS WRITTEN FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH!

BLACK MAN
COLORS
WHO KNOWS

BLACK
MAN
More than
two hundred years ago; slavery was mandated by the law
That black
was inferior to white,
and yet the
white man paid a handsome price
So he could
own my "inferior" black ancestors...
And then the
white man laid with my black sisters and reproduced.
I don't know
what you think; but I believe it's time to stop!
Whether you
think we were created or evolved,
our anatomy
is undeniably the same...
No one color
is more intelligent than the other.
For every
Bill Clinton...there is a Martin Luther King
Even Frank
Sinatra... has heard of Luther Vandross
And for
every Emily Dickinson...there is a Maya Angelou.
My skin
color is not related to the size of my brain,
But my skin
color restricts my opportunities...
And so the
struggle goes on for the black man in this universe...
As we
approach the twenty - first century. The pattern continues.

COLORS
I have
heard it said
Black is
beautiful...
And
white is colorless.
Nonetheless,
I often wonder
What
happened to the other colors?
Some of
us are different shades of brown
And some
of us are pink in the sun
Others
are a lighter shade of red...
So, why
do we only see black & white.

WHO
KNOWS
Sometimes
I wonder why
We do
the things we do
And
whether I should always
Turn the
other cheek...
Or give
an eye for an eye.
I watch
as days turn to weeks
And I
count how many die
Still, I
ask myself ...Why?
