GRACE BULLER
Two
you came upon my campfire
and warmed your chilling bones.
I sat, watched the glow return
and listened as the flame...
took on more vibrant color,
danced, sang a little song,
of how it's joy, it had increased
to share what little heat it knew...
would be consumed by days break,
but for all the cold night long
it's value had been multiplied
by two
on the morn you raised your pack
and faced the sun.
went into the wind, leaning
strong,
you climb the crest now
as I wave you out of view.
I rake the coals, humming,
thinking, there are those,
who merely by being there
release renewal into the air.
you travel, but in spirit
I see two
