DAVE BISHOP
INDIGO BUNTING

(poetryrepairshop 99.11:123)
"Indigo Buntings are actually black, but the diffraction of light through
the structure of their feathers makes them appear blue."
--The Audubon Society Field Guild to North American Birds

And so, it seems
the Bunting, like the sky
goes black at night.
Colorless,
without a smile from the sun.

I look at myself in the mirror
at midnight.
