The truth:
When asked to explain who the girls were and who their parents were, I tried to do so, but all of my attempts to answer one detective's questions were cut off by more questions from the other detective. Most of their questions were insulting and offensive. Detective Lyons, especially, was much more interested in asking about "kiddie porn" than the identities of the girls or their parents.
The girls were not at home on either of the occasions when the Westbrook police and DHS workers returned to interrogate them further. After the abuse they already suffered from Detective Lyons, no caregiver who was concerned with the children’s' welfare would have permitted further interrogation if the children had been available.
My business is not pornographic.
My business is not operated "off of the children’s' bedroom." It is located in the other end of the house behind a locked door.
I have never slept in the same bedroom with Heather or said anything to anyone to give them that impression.
Our home is filled with abundant and obvious evidence that my wife Patricia lives there.
When detectives visited Patricia's work place in the mall, they were told that she was off work that day on vacation, which was true. They were not told that she was off for the summer.
The girls' bedroom is off of the kitchen. Both detectives were told that. Neither of them ever asked about it or were shown to it by anyone.
Heather knows that my office is off-limits to her only because it contains adult materials. Christina only knows that my office is off-limits. Neither of the girls knew any more about the nature of business until it was described to them in graphic detail by Detective Lyons.
My business involves adult materials unsuitable for viewing by children in the same sense that most movies shown on cable television at night are unsuitable for viewing by children. I do not deal in any form of pornography. I have no materials depicting adults engaging in sexual activities at all. My magazines and videotapes are stored edgewise in shelves, so that the covers are not visible without removing them. Detective Lyons pulled magazines and videotapes from their shelves without my consent to examine them. My computer is password protected.
The girls have never been alone in the house at any time. They have never had any opportunity to access anything in my office.
