Dale County, Alabama Cemeteries

Dale County, Alabama Cemeteries AlGenWeb Project

To date, no complete survey of all the cemeteries in Dale County has ever been made. A very large number of cemeteries were surveyed between 1948 and 1952 by E. H. Hayes. In 1973, Hayes completed a typed manuscript of his survey and copies of this have become widely circulated in libraries. However, it has never been published as a book. Many of the tombstones or funeral home markers and other markers that Hayes transcribed in the 1940's and 1950's can no longer be read because of weathering or they have been discarded. It is to his credit that information on these burials is still pre-served through his efforts.

Some of these cemeteries listed below are on the Dale County AlGenWeb site, while most are on a variety of other websites. When you click on the cemeteries, you will not be able to return to this site unless you bookmark the Dale County Home page or this page. So BE SURE to bookmark either this page or the Home page.

All of the cemetery records which were once listed on the Ozark-Dale County Library website have been removed for some reason. I have been unable to learn why. However, a group of folks in Dale County have been preparing a book on the cemeteries of the county and they may prefer that you buy their book rather than having the information on the Internet for free. I suggest you contact the librarian for information on the cemeteries not listed here.

Unfortunately, many of these are very old surveys; several are those made by Mr. Hayes in the 1940s and 1950s.
