State Legislatures

Morgan kinfolk who have served in state government and politics. Click on those with highlighted links to go to our other government sections.

Daniel Nash Morgan of Bridgeport, Fairfield County, Connecticut, was elected to the Connecticut State Senate representing the 14th District and served from 1885-1886. He was born in 1844 in Fairfield, Ct., a son of Ezra Morgan and Hannah Nash.

Dick Thompson Morgan was elected to the Indiana State House of Representatives.

Fred Morgan of Paducah, McCracken County, Ky. was elected as a Democrat to the Kentucky State House of Representatives from the 3rd District in 1973 and reelected in 1975.

James Morgan served in the New York State Assembly in 1831, representing New York County.

James Bright Morgan served in the Mississippi House of Representatives.

James H. Morgan was elected to the California State Assembly from the 4th District and served 1861-1862.

Raymond F. Morgan was born 19 Feb 1908 in Calhoun County, West Virginia, a son of James West Morgan and Rosalie Booher. He was a farmer. Raymond was elected as a Republican candidate to the West Virginia State House of Delegates from Wirt County and served 1957-1958.

Thomas C. Morgan was born 24 Feb 1875 in Monmouth, England. He immigrated to the United States and eventually settled in Battle Creek, Michigan. He served in the US Army during the Spanish American War. He was elected as a Republican to the Michigan State House of Representatives in 1943.

W. R. Morgan of Sierra County, California was elected from the 22nd District to the California State Assembly and served 1873-1875.

 

State Conventions

David T. Morgan was born in 1857 in Charleston, Tioga County, Pa. He moved to Michigan. He was named to the Michigan State Constitutional Convention of 1907-1908 from the 31st District.

Attorney General

Robert Burren Morgan served as Attorney General of North Carolina and was later elected US Senator from North Carolina.

State Auditor

William Duane Morgan was elected as Ohio State Auditor and served 1852-1856.

State Comptroller

William J. Morgan was elected State Comptroller of New York and served from 1899 until his death in 1900, the day after his re-nomination for a second term.

Secretary of State

Christopher Morgan served as Secretary of State of New York

State Treasurer

Howell Morgan Sr., a native of Nebraska (?), was elected Treasurer of Louisiana in 1920. His son Cecil served in the Louisiana House of Representatives.

State Party Officials

Ivan C. Morgan served as Chairman of the Indiana Republican Party in 1937. He was also a delegate from Indiana to the Republican National Convention in 1940.

Louise Elaine Morgan, wife of A. J. Morgan of Wierton, WV, served on the West Virginia Republican State Executive Committee from 1949-1952.
