Confederate States Army

This part of our History section is devoted to all the Southern Riley men and boys who fought to defend their homes and Nation as soldiers and sailors in the Confederate States Army and Navy during the War for Southern Independence (War Between the States), 1861-1865.

We will try to list every known Riley who served in the military forces of the Confederacy. If you have copies of records or information on a Riley ancestor who served in the Southern military forces, please send us copies to preserve in the Family Library.

Most of the military forces of the South were organized into regiments or battalions. All the units below are infantry unless otherwise designated, such as Cav. for cavalry or Arty. for artillery.
