THERON S. WARD Jr.
Killed in World War II

Over the last five years I have been researching an air crash which occurred in south west Scotland on 27 July 1944 during World II. This involved an American Army Air Corps C-47 aircraft of the 301 SQ 441 TRP CARR Group, which struck a cliff face in thick fog, killing all 22 onboard. The plane was carrying injured American soldiers from Normandy, England and Scotland to America. My grandfather and an uncle were involved in the removal of the dead from the beach. Because of my research a Memorial Service was held at the crash site on 27 Jul 1999. Three relatives of a nursing sister who was killed came over for the Service. A plaque was also unveiled with the names of those who died. I have been attempting to trace any relatives of Lt. THERON S. WARD Jr. who was killed in the air crash. He served in the 116 Infantry Regiment, 29 Division, US Army. His service number was 0-483739. VA No. 3-674-489. It is possible that he lived in Washington State before the war. He is buried at the American War Cemetery, Cambridge, England. My wife and I visited his grave about three years ago. I would appreciate any help in tracing his family. Yours sincerely,
