 MARY ANN WOODHAM
Michigan Native Dies In Ozark

OZARK, Ala.-- Mary Ann Woodham died here 10 Feb., aged 66.

Mary Ann was born in Pontiac, Michigan, 17 Jan., 1932, daughter of Jesse Mercer Woodham and Gladys Elizabeth Maxwell. She had moved to California many years ago, along with two brothers. She worked there as a legal secretary for many years. She lived in Rosemeade, Ca. when our historian last talked with her in 1994 and said then she planned to retire and move to the Ozark area, where her brother, William Douglas Woodham, had retired from the Army and settled several years ago. Mary Ann moved to Newton in 1995.

Her father Mercer grew up near Augusta, Ga. He was orphaned during the great flu epidemic, 1917-1918, when his father and four brothers and sister all died within five days of flu. His mother had died a few months earlier. Mercer left home and moved to Michigan where he worked in the auto industry until his retirement, when he moved to California.

Mary Ann is a descendant of the Edward Woodham from Virginia who settled in Greene County, Georgia in the 1780's. He was a first cousin of the other Edward Woodham Jr. who settled in old Darling- ton District (now Lee County), SC about the same time. Although there are now thousands of descendants of the Greene County branch of our family, the family name of Woodham has almost died out in this family line.

Burial was next to her brother, William Douglas Woodham, in Woodlawn Cemetery in Ozark.

Survivors include a brother, Richard C. Woodham, Chandler, Ariz.; sister-in- law, Lillian Kuttukuhn Woodham, Newton; two nieces and three adopted nieces.
