Address Sources
References:
To write to a celebrity you need a current address. Two books
are extremely useful for finding celebrity addresses: Who's Who in
America and Current Biography, both of which are
commonly found in most public libraries. These books list most major celebrities
and have addresses that are very reliable. Who’s Who in America
is especially useful since it is updated each year.
Lists:
A number of address lists are for sale to autograph collectors.
Among the best of these are the ones produced by Jim
Weaver. Visit his web site, or write for more information: Jim Weaver;
322 Mall Blvd. #345; Monroeville, PA 15146-2229 (enclose a business-sized
SASE). A typical list has over a thousand addresses and all lists are reasonably
priced. I highly recommend these lists to collectors who collect through
the mail. (Please note that Mr. Weaver does not provide addresses through
e-mail.)
Publishers:
If you cannot find an address for an author, send a requst
to him in care of his publisher. Most publishers will forward mail to their
authors. The publisher’s address is usually found on the reverse side of
the title page.
Others:
Sometimes extraordinary means are needed for difficult celebrities.
For instance, with rock stars it is sometimes possible to send mail to
them in care of auditoriums in which they will play. If a celebrity is
in a commecial advertising a certain product sometimes that company will
forward mail. Also, celebrities may sometimes own restaurants or nightclubs
for which an address may be found.
