The Baranof Theatre Guild is a community Theatre that in its present form has been active since the 1950's and was incorporated in the 1960's. If one counts the existance of a community theatre during the Russian occupation, BTG is the oldest community theare in the State of Alaska! The Guild produces two or more plays a year, some shows by themselves and some in cooperation with the SJ Players. In the era before Cable Television the guild regularly presented a 4 play season. This 1998/99 Season the guild will produce two. In addition to producing plays, the guild sponsors Workshops such as the Stagefighting workshop presented by Fight Master Mike Hood last season, and the Make-up, Directing and Technical workshops this season.
Yearly the Guild awards the Kerry Munro Scholarship to a graduating high school senior who is planning to study in the Visual or Performing Arts. The 1997/1998 recipient was Joel Risteen who is now studying at the Seattle Art Institute.
The next show of this season will be Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing. Casting Auditions will be held in January. If you do not wish to be a Main Stage actor we encourage you to join the Production Company in artistic, administrative or technical support. Training is provided so please jump in.
Grants, membership and tickets support the Guild productions. Please show your support and endorse Community Theatre by becoming a Voting Member in the Guild.
