Silver's Biography
[blue bar]
If a man insisted always on being serious,
and never allowed himself a bit of fun and relaxations,
he would go mad or become unstable without knowing it.
--Herodotus

.Who or what is Silver? The encyclopedia says it is "...one of the first metals used by humans," but tht is neither here or there. Silver is short for SilverTongue, my handle when I was a chataholic. After a year or so of cyber-erotica-prose-chat I switched to just Silver, and offered this explanation when asked what happened to my Tongue:
"It wagged to the left... wagged to the right... wagged one more time, then fell right out of sight!" :-)
.In other words, it got old. Not my tongue, cyber-chat. So I became just Silver.

.Oh, I still do chat now and then, but not like before. There is so much more to the world than just chat! More to the internet, for sure, and also there is RT, or real time, meaning real life, as opposed to cerfing the net or hacking away at my PC. My hobbies include hiking, camping, kayaking, traveling to new places, reading, gardening, antiques (especially cars!) and last but certainly not least: Music!

.Ah, music! That which enhances our lives, gives vibrance to our souls, brings us all together, destroying any and all barriers, and makes life worthwhile! Rock 'n roll mostly, with a double shot of the blues, some jazz to make me mellow, and even a small taste of country, KPIG style (http://www.kpig.com/ Check it out!). I am old enough to have witnessed the very beginnings of rock 'n roll", and can still remember the first record I ever bought in 1958, for about .79 cents. A 45 RPM record called Lonely Teardrops, by Jackie Wilson (http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/DYaros/jwilson.htm). I must have bought hundreds of 45s back in the late 50s, early 60s - wish I still had them! Was pretty poor back then, used to go around collecting empty pop bottles off the streets, to get enough to buy another record.

.When I was 12 I got my first "job" delivering newspapers. At one time I had the largest paper route in all of LA, where I grew up. Three routes combined, actually. Now I could buy all the records I wanted, not to mention a good stereo! At 15 I started pumping gas, and bought a notorcycle. Back then you could ride a bike when you were 15-1/2. Motorcycles were it for me, both street and dirt bikes. Didn't even own a car until I was 19. Bought a 1963 TR3, a Triumph sportscar. Any car made in England back then was a candidate for the worst made vehicle in the world, but I did not care! I loved sports cars, and still do!

.First professional job was working for a stock brokerage company, which I did for a year before being laid off, along with hundreds of other "traders." In fact, the company I worked for went out of business a year or so later, and it had been the 5th largest company in the world. Major business downturn back then. Anyhow, I did various things over the next few years, some of which I prefer not to speak of, but then at the relatively old age of 27 I went to college. Earned my undergrad degree in liberal studies in about 5 years, then my master's in another 3, and ended up going to work at that same school!

.My first job at my alma mater was working with a very unusual program, which unfortunately no longer exists. It was a support services program for ex-offenders... people who had been in prison or jail. We helped them get enrolled in college, get financial aid, and then did everything we could to help them make it! Some did, some didn't, but many were successful, and our program was considered a model program, and even received funding from the Department of Corrections. Unfortunately, one of our students who did not make it commited a horrendous crime, which resulted in the program being shut down. So, after devoting about 3 years of my life to what was a very stressful, burnout but also very rewarding occupation, I moved over to student financial aid, where I still work today.

.Hey, giving away money is not a bad job! :-) Although I often tell students if they think applying is hard, try giving it away. I jump through more hoops than anybody! I hate red tape, and fight against it every day. And usually win.
