File Transfers

If you are a member of PTI, or Geocities, or any number of other providers, you have access to a shell account. You can Telnet or FTP into your shell account using these steps, or similiar steps. Providers may be different.

Download A WinZip Program

Do this only if you do not already have one.

Open Your ISP Connection
Open Your WWW Browser
Connect to :
- http://www.ptialaska.net/~ecpatt/programs/
Click on winzip95.exe
Click on "save it to disk" (in this case save it to the programs folder under a new folder you make called "downloads">
Click Ok
When the program is done downloading execute the program:
- Click Start
- Click Run
- Click the Open arrow
- Click Browse and locate the winzip95.exe program
- Highlight/choose and click Open
- Follow the Directions to install the program.

Download An FTP Program:

Open Your ISP Connection
Open Your WWW Browser
Connect to :
- http://www.ptialaska.net/~ecpatt/programs/
Click on ws_ftple.zip
Click on "save it to disk" (in this case save it to the programs folder under a new folder you make called "downloads">
Click Ok
When the program is done downloading, use your new Win-Zip Program to unzip and install it!

Uploading With FTP:

Open Your ISP Connection
Open your FTP Program
Connect To Remote Computer
Fill In The Requested Information
- Profile Name: FTP (whatever default is)
- HostName/Address: examples:
  - www.ptialaska.net
  - ftp.oocities.com
- HostType:Automatic Detect
- User ID:Your PIDexamples:
  - tnecl
- User Password:
  - Your Password
Click Okay/Connect
Open public_html folder (Only if needed. PTI requires all web pages you wished viewed to be stored in public folder. Geocities does not.)
Create Sub-Directories if you wish and are able. (PTI will allow subdirectories. Geocities will not unless you are a paying member.)
Upload files to correct directories/subdirectories
Open Browser (if not already open)
View File in Browser: example:
- http://www.ptialaska.net/~yourpid/index.html
If Upload went okay close connection to remote computer
Close FTP Program
