1699 d'Iberville lands at Biloxi - Ft. Maurepas built 1702 Early French settlements--Biloxi and Mobile Mobile served as the capital of the French colony of Louisiane for almost a decade, until its abandonment in 1711. Fort Louis was built in Old Mobile. 1715 Yamasee War--all British traders in the interior Southeast were killed or expelled because of trade abuses with the indians 1717 French build Fort Toulouse at Wetumpka (present day Elmore Co, Alabama) This outpost was on the Coosa River in the Alabamas indian area. 1720 Dog River Plantation at the confluence with Mobile Bay established by Charles Rouchon. Many slaves, both Indian and African, lived and worked at the Dog River plantation over the years. A brickyard was located on Dog River from 1819 to 1831, and a sawmill was built nearby in the mid-1830s. 1756 .. 1763 French & Indian War (a.k.a. Seven Years War) 1776 .. 1783 American Revolutionary War 1780 Spanish capture Mobile during American Revolution and retain the West and East Floridas as part of war-ending treaty. 1784 Alexander McGillivray named Spanish representative among the Creek Indians. He had a large plantation near the Coosa River in central Alabama. 1803 .. 1811 Federal Road conceived and built connecting Milledgeville, Georgia to Fort Stoddert, American outpost north of Mobile. 30 Aug 1813 Fort Mims Massacre--Creek Indians massacred more than 300 people including women and children (7 miles west of Tensaw in Baldwin County). Chief cause of the Creek Indian War. 1813 .. 1814 Creek Indian War July 1813 — Battle of Burnt Corn Creek August 1813 — Fort Mims Massacre December 1813 — Battle of Holy Ground 27 March 1814 — Battle of Horseshoe Bend (Dadeville, Tallapoosa Co, Alabama) Nearly 3,000 Tennessee militia, 39th U.S. Infantry and Native American allies led by Andrew Jackson waged a fierce battle with close to 1,000 Creek Indians led by Chief Menawa, which ended the Creek Indian War. This battle was fought on the Horseshoe bend of the Tallapoosa River. 1817 Alabama Territory created, with temporary capital at St. Stephens, when Mississippi becomes a state. 1834 Fort Morgan, a five sided masonry fortification, positioned at the point of the peninsula in order to guard the mouth of Mobile Bay, was completed.
