Statement of NOLSW President --

It is with deep and heartfelt sadness that I must inform you of the untimely passing on the morning of May 11, of Joe Mesar, NOLSW Financial Secretary. He was admitted to a hospital near his home over the weekend and spent the last few days of his life surrounded and cared for by his cousin Elaine and friends.

Joe was a rare person, a special friend to us all and an extraordinary Union leader. From his early days as a founding member of ICLAW, the NOLSW unit in Pittsburgh, to his work as a leader of our local, Joe brought a unique spirit and sense of humor to his work. His ability to inspire confidence and compassion was a great comfort to all of us, especially during trying times. He fought long and hard to make equal justice a reality not only for our members, but for our clients as well. We rededicate ourselves to carrying on that fight in his memory, but we will miss our brother Joe deeply.
