Corn stalks have long been associated with Halloween. Imagine a misty autumn field, lit wanly by a pale moon, where corn stalks have been gathered into shocks, looking like strange earthy goblins of vegetable origin. Very Halloweenish! In many cultures, corn is also associated with fertility and earth magic. Uncialle features cornstalks as part of the Halloween scene in the Stronghold. These are stalks of miniature Indian corn, "Li'l Indian" and "Mandan" varieties, which grow each year in the Stronghold's garden, just for Halloween. The bright, variegated ears go inside for decorating, and the stalks stand sentinel beside a door. An informal scattering of tiny orange lights reveals their autumnal beauty, as well as the rounded forms of a few companion jack o' lanterns. Did you read Stephen King's The Stand ? Place a few rubber rats in the corn.
