STOP PRESS - NEW CD UPDATE - RECORDINGS FINISHED!!!!
John Wetton & Ken Hensley - recording together again after 25 long years!!!These photos were taken earlier in the week as John Wetton and Steve Christey were recording on the 5 extra tracks Ken has penned over the past few weeks.
John's contribution has been inspiring, he uses the bass as an extra melody line and has become known for his use of thirds and fifths which gives extra accent to the root notes when played. John credits his major influence as "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys where the bass lines are quite remarkable. Martin Turner was an acclaimed exponent of this and Andy Powell's endorsement of John as the best bass player Wishbone Ash ever used is a testament to John's bass playing.
John's arranging skills have been applauded by Ken since the UH collaborations 25 years ago, and there was a creatively warm atmosphere in the studio as the spark was immediately obvious. A bit like riding a bike I suppose although to us would be musicians that is a graphic understatement!
Steve Christey & Ken Hensley also in the studio...Steve Christey is used to accompanying John's playing and once again there was an immediate empathy, especially when Dave Kilminster turned up and 75% of the 1997-2000 Wetton solo band reunited. As I write, Dave K and Andy Pyle are finishing the final track and then it is off to the USA for mixing until mid August, then mastering at Abbey Road late August.
I have already gone on record as confirming the quality of this collection of songs.
Quite probably, Ken's finest work although comparisons are subjective, but certainly one would imagine that the collection represents 20 years post-Heep musical development and we are all looking forward to sharing the music with as wide an audience as possible over the next year.
There are exciting negotiations in progress at the moment and a major tour will be undertaken next year.
