Flat Stanley Project
We began our Flat Stanley adventures in the fall. We sent our own flat people to Mrs. Livingston's friend in Bancroft. Then in the new year, we discovered Flat Stanley websites!
We logged on and sent Flat Stanleys to France, England, Australia, Hawaii, Robert Munsch, Rosie O'Donnell, and to the Prime Minister of Canada.
By the end of June 1999, we had hosted Flat Stanleys from France and England. We received our Flat Stanleys back from Robert Munsch and England.
Postcard Geography Project
Journey North
1998/1999 was our second year that we were involved in the Journey North program. Through this program we have become more aware of the plights of many animals and insects around us. We received email from Minnesota about the signs of spring. People emailed the site with sightings of robins, humming birds, loons, monarch butterflies, first tulips, and so on.
On March 21, 1999 we saw a robin in Latchford. When we see a sign of spring, we log on to the computer at school and tell Journey North in Minnesota of our sighting.
In the fall we coloured paper monarch butterflies and mailed them to Minnesota. They were then directed to Mexico where they stayed there over the winter, just like the real Monarchs. By May 10, 1999 we received 19 butterflies from Journey North from other school children.
SEEDS IN ACTION
St. Patrick School has been involved in the SEEDS project located out of Alberta. Our school has achieved Jade status. We were working towards the next level - Emerald.
We participated in the Earth Day Challenge held in our area on April 22, 1999.
We recycled old telephone books in the Northern Telephone Telephone Book Recovery Program. We again placed first place and won the trophy and $300.00.
All activities are recorded in our SEEDS Log Book and by the Spring of 1999 we achieved Emerald level.
We also participate in the SEEDS monthly challenges. In March 1999, we had to create a poster about an environmental topic.
In 1998/1999 we were involved in the Alpha Penpals program. In the 1997/1998 year, when we were the grade 3 class we were twinned with a class from British Columbia. In the 1998/1999 year, we crossed Canada, and we began writing a Grade 4 class in Larks Harbour, Newfoundland!
This is a great program that even provides you with writing material.
Environment and Me Contest
Our class participated again in the 1998/1999 school year in the Lion's Club - Environment and Me Contest. In the 1997/1998 year, P.J.'s picture went on to the district contest. He won $25.00 and our class won $125.00!!!
We of course entered again the next year and the winners were 1st- P.J., 2nd - Trevor and 3rd - Andrew. They each received a plaque, and P.J.'s picture went on to the district competition again. We did not win at the district competition but the Lion member was so impressed to get participation from all categories in our school he took our pictures to the National conference.

Jump Rope For Heart
St. Patrick School has been participating in the Jump Rope for Heart program since it first began in 1981. On Thursday, March 25, 1999, the teams gathered in the gym to skip for a worthwhile cause. There were 85 skippers from Gr. 1 to Gr. 8. Altogether our school raised over $1800.00 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
In 1999/2000, St. Patrick School raised over $3000.00 for this wonderful program.
In 2001/ 2002, we celebrated our 20th year of Jump Rope at St. Pat's. This year, we had a Hoops for Heart (basketball) event. Overall we raised over $2,200.00 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
In 2002/ 2003, we celebrated our 21th year of Jump Rope at St. Pat's. This year, we had a Hoops for Heart (basketball) event. Overall we raised over $3100.00 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
In 2003/2004, we celebrated our 22th year of Jump Rope at St. Pat's. This year, we had a Hoops for Heart (basketball) event. Overall we raised over $3500.00 for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Swimming Program
After an absence of 3 years, the Grade 4 swim program has returned to St. Patrick School.
Robert Munsch
Visit the webpage of our favourite author. Click on the square named Something Special and you'll find our story that our class and Mrs. Livingston wrote for Mr. Munsch called the Zoodles Capers. We then sent a poem to Mr. Munsch to try to get him to come to visit us at St. Patrick School. The poem was written by Mrs. Livingston and Mrs. Grant and was illustrated by our class.
We sent a copy of our Zoodles Capers story to Heinz. They sent us 48 cans of... yes - Zoodles. We donated the food to the local foodbank.
