The Who's Who

Here are presented the main characters appearing in SPECTREMAN.
From cyborg George Gamo to Space Simian Karas, enjoy the pictures and comments !

Johji Gamoh (George/s - played by Tetsuo Narikawa)

Our hero in the series. He's actually Spectreman, a cyborg sent by Nebula 71 to stop the evil Dr Gori. He can change into a human being under the name of Johji Gamoh, a intentionnal pun on George Anthony Camow. He enters the Pollution Research Bureau where he often appears strange in front of his colleagues, disappearing and reppearing here and there.
He also has good relationships with women (Rie, Mineko, Midori and Hiromi) and children all through the series. His human form may be synonymous of advantages (he can follow Gori's plans without being noticed) but it also arouses some defects : he happens to disobey his superiors several times in the series, being too emotive as regards Earthlings. But when the situation requires it, George raises his right arm to become the mighty :

Spectreman (Supekutoruman, Spectralman)

The titanic supehero. He receives his energy from the artificial Nebula 71 which sent him on Earth. He can change his size depending the creature he's fighting and use several weapons like the terrible Spectreflash,  shurikens, freezing rays, and even a sword and a  shield. He can also fly at Mach 8. Most of his fights involve monsters from mutated animals to cosmic beasts but he also fought apemen henchmen, polluted people and Rah himself. He was believed to be dead in episode 35 and was about to be replaced by another agent but his deep love for Earth convinced the Overlords who let the cyborg finish his task. His work finished, he returned to his home planet. The name Spectreman (former Spectralman) was given by Earthlings who were dazzled by his spectrum-ray.

Doctor Gori (Gori Hakase, Uchuu Enjin Gori)

The charismatic character is actually a mutant with an IQ superior to 300. He failed to take over his home planet, the planet E, so he fleed from it. He lied aimless in the galaxy before finally reaching the Earth. He was fascinated by its beauty but he was disgusted by its flaw : pollution. Furious, Gori decided to erase the planet to rebuild a new garden of Eden by sending monsters born from pollution to punish the stupid Earthlings. But his escape had finally penetrated the Universal Federation's ears whose task was to prevent the developping planets from being attacked by anyone. As a result, Gori first had to cope with an obstacle : Spectreman !

Nebula 71 (Nanaichi, Nebula 79, the Overlords)

This strange-looking spaceship is actually an artificial planet on which live mysterious beings who protect the universe.
Always cold-tempered, they don't waver to sacrify a being for the sake of mankind which contrasts with Johji's mind who always try to protect anybody even risking to be disactivated or even destroyed. Only the Overlord decide when Johji has to transform into Spectreman. Nebula also has mysterious powers such as the ability to reverse time.

Karis (Karas, Enjin Rah)

This bruitish soldier is Dr Gori's right hand. He's a very strong but also very stupid warrior and helped Gori to escape from the Planet E. His stupidity contrasts with Gori's genius which created one of the most interessant couple in the history of TV Science Fiction. Karas goofes so often that he finally prevents Gori from achieving his goal. Of course, Karas's most memorable visit on Earth is in episode 4 where he discovers Tokyo, wearing a poncho and a hat ! The obvious King Kong parody in episode 5 is also especially good. He confronted Spectreman several times but will finally be killed by Spectreman's Double Flash in the last episode.
