Here are some links to some Extreme Sports, that I like to do!
Scuba Diving I have been a PADI Divemaster for about 8 years now
and I have dived all around the globe. I don't know if you think Scuba Diving is an Extreme Sport, but I can guarantee
it is. I have been: night diving, wreck diving, deep diving, shark diving, cavern diving (not Cave diving... You should be Cave
Dive Certified for that), rescue diving, lobster diving and everything in between. It is a great benefit to be able
to travel the world and get a job whereever there is water.
Surfing Paddle into a 6 foot Hawaiian wave and drop in and bottom turn hard,
one mistake and you're having a coral breakfast. Shoot down the line and snap off the top, do a roundhouse and snap again. The ocean is your
canvas to make whatever art you desire. Surfing for over 20 years now, I still enjoy it in every aspect. Feeling one with the ocean, enjoying
the scenery, feeling the power of Mother Nature and being with your bro's. It's a killer feeling !
Snowboarding Skiing will always be fun to me, but you're limited in
some respects, Snowboarding however, you can just go nuts! Half pipes, snowboard parks, utlimate air, etc... When it snows, I goes.
4 Wheel Driving I have kick ass Nissan Pathfinder. It's perfect
for those river, surf, snowboard, waterski, climbing, scuba and whatever trips. It just cruises through the snow and sand.
Bungy Jumping I have only Bungy jumped twice but... what a rush! The first time
was in Cairns, Australia. I did a gainer and dropped 144 feet into a pond and dipped myself up to my hips, ripping off my shirt.. Killer! The second time
was in Perris, CA (I think) 110 feet over cement. Scary.
Climbing, Mountaineering, Camping Whenever I can get away, I am
in the mountains. I've lived in the tropics a lot and I really enjoy hiking in the rainforest, but no matter where am living, I always have
to escape the grind and enjoy the solitude of the mountains.
Mountain Biking Man against the mountain. Ah, what fun :) I have a
Specialized Stumpjumper and have to tip my hat to the manufacturers. My old Stumpjumpers frame cracked at the rear quick release drop
and I took it into The Mountain Bike Warehouse and they had a Specialized Rep check it out and they gave me
either a New frame for FREE or a New bike at an extreme discount. I love it when a company stands behind its product. I opted for the bike and we do some insane stuff together.
I get a little crazy, going down 200' chutes, riding on trails with no room
for error, coming home completely muddy, and basically just being a nut. Oh, did I tell you I am an Adreneline junkie?
Springboard Diving Maybe not Extreme to some but to me... I take it to the limit. In High School (Mira Costa, Manhattan Beach, CA) I was
on the Varsity team for four years. My hardest dive was a triple tuck but my 2 1/2 pike was easier and prettier. Springboard diving was fun but my friends and I used to sneak into the pool rafters (55 feet above the pool) at
night and jump, dive and flip into a darkened pool. It was fun, until the cops show up. (Never got caught :) Well that was fun but cliff diving really became my love. Lake Havasiu and the
Colorado River are my fun spots. The gnarliest cliff was in Micronesia at a place called Forbidden Island. I jumped off a 120 foot cliff into
70 feet of water. It was so high that I almost passed out when I hit the water. My friend David jumped too but he landed wrong and hurt his back. The bad part was, we
had to swim a mile in to the beach because the waves were smashing against the coral rocks. Shark infested waters too. I don't recommend this to anyone.
Windsurfing One of the hardest sports I've ever done. It looks so easy but
getting it wired is hard. I used to teach windsurfing in Saipan (Micronesia) to a bunch of Japanese tourist. It was a blast but I rescued more tourist off of the coral
than anything else. They just couldn't turn around. I used to have to yell on our intercom, "Oranje bouy no naka ne itte kudasai!" Which means, "Dont go outside
the orange bouy." They never listened. It's a great when you can harness the wind and fly across the water.
White Water Rafting When I was younger I used to go Rafting quite a bit. The Kern River was were I
did the gnarliest stuff. Some freezing water and some deathly rapids. I also did some rafting up north a bit and on the Colorado. When not rafting I take a canoe out and just chill and
soak in the beauty of the serene outdoors.
Wakeboarding/Waterskiing It's spring and getting closer to summer and the waves are flat, well what do you
do? You pile up your friends and go to the River! Raging good time, hanging with your friends and catching some air behind their boats. I love to carve a big spray in the morning before the wind picks
up. Wakeboarding is killer, when it was flat when I lived in Maui we would go out and wakeboard on crystal clear Hawaiian waters and just have the time of our lives.
Sailing I have sailed a lot of places and it's not too extreme unless the weather is. My favorite cruise was in the Whitsunday Islands in
Australia. I was on a vessel that sailed in the America's Cup a few years before. The hull sliced through the water and the sails full of wind and power. I also chartered a boat for a week on the Great Barrier
Reef and numerous other places.
Thrillnet A cool link to some other Extreme Sports
Pennywise: My bro's from High School
Pennywise 16th Street in Hermosa Beach is a breeding ground for talent. My brother Kerley
and I grew up on that beach. Many of the songs from Pennywise tell stories of our lost friends and the times we had there. My friend Jason Thirsk (bass)
took his own life a short while ago. I will miss him, he was a killer bro and he always made me laugh. If you want to check out a
band with bitchen lyrics, go to this page and enjoy. Music for the Extreme!
