My Girl Scouting Page!

Yeah, I know - you think I'm old fashioned or some kind of dweeb, right?  Well, go ahead!  I make no apologies for being involved and registered in a very worthwhile program that has given me many, many opportunities to meet people, help others, see places, learn things, and share.  I sincerely believe that over the years I have made many life-long friends that I never would have had the opportunity to make had I not been actively involved in the Girl Scouting program.  (A dear friend of 28 years is helping me with this page - I met her my freshman year in college through our Campus Girl Scout troop.  She worked for Caprock Girl Scout Council at that time.)

I decided to add this area to my growing web site in an effort to help those younger Girl Scouts that might be working on badge requirements, or those who might just be interested in finding out how Girl Scouting has changed over the past 40 years that I have been a registered member.  I'm sure that there are even "older" Scouts out there, and I'd be very interested in hearing from them, too!  Who knows, with some help from them, this could really be a neat area!  :o)

Did you know?

That for every 100 girls that join Girl Scouting:
Eight will enter a vocation that was learned through a badge or patch program.
One will use her Girl Scouting skills to save a life.
71% of Girl Scouts earn A's and B's compared to 50% of girls nation wide.
Eighteen will develop hobbies used during their adult life.
Four will earn the "Gold Award".
Only rarely will one be brought before a juvenile court.
These were things I was not aware of, but it doesn't really surprise me when I think about it.

How to plant a Girl Scout Garden

First, plant 5 rows of peas:
Preparedness
Politeness
Promptness
Perseverance
Prayer
...
Then plant a row of squash:
Squash gossip
Squash indifference
Squash criticism
..
Then, 10 rows of lettuce:
Let us be faithful
Let us be courageous
Let us be unselfish
Let us be loyal
Let us be truthful
Let us be friendly
Let us be courteous
Let us be useful
Let us love one another
Let us be thrifty
..
No garden, of course, would be complete without turnips, so:
Turn up for meetings
Turn up for training
Turn up for camp
Turn up with a new idea
 Turn up with real determination
And best of all, turn up with a smile!
...
