Gundam Wing, aka Gundam W, is one part of the overall series of Gundam. This anime has 49 episodes, 3 OVA, and three mangas (yep, only three) produced by Sunrise. It's a great mech series, holding plenty of fantastic action, suspense, and hosts fairly *bishounen* characters! ^^
While having lovely artwork, this story doesn't really have a… extremely… um… plotline. Basically it's 146(?) AC (After Colonization) and the colonies are in conflict/war with Earth. A group of professors (Doctors J, H, G, O, and S) decide to take matters into their own hands and defend the colonies. They constructed "Gundams" and each choose a boy to train to pilot the deadly machines. The five main characters of the story are: Heero Yuy, trained by Dr. J, pilot of Wing Gundam. Duo Maxwell, chosen by Dr. G, pilot of Gundam Deathscythe. Trowa Barton, selected by Dr. S, pilot of Gundam Heavyarms. Quatre Raberba Winner, working for Dr. H, pilot of Gundam Sandrock. Wufei Chang, taught by Dr. O, pilot of Shenlong Gundam.
The five boys acted independently and only later (the beginning of the anime for us) discovered there were other Gundams working on the same side. They sort of "teamed" up, working to oppose Earth and OZ together for the colonies. Things start to get complex as the Relena Peacecraft, Princess of the Kingdom Peacecraft, finds out her true heritage and wades into the battle of politics with the colonies and Earth. The guys then start trying to end the war by getting Relena into the seat of command… while trying to resolve their own inner conflicts.
This is one of our favorite series and you should take a look at it. It's not as boring as it first appears! Honest… ^_^
