Hospital at Sandy Hook, MD,
Aug. 27, 1864

Dear Walter,

I telegraphed to you yesterday that I was here wounded. Should have telegraphed to Father also, but did not know where a message would find him. I shall go to Baltimore or Annapolis as soon as possible. Cannot go home for some time as my wound is very painful. The ball hit me in the right hip and fortunately passed around the bone & lodged near my spine. It has not been extracted, and I presume that I shall carry it for the rest of my days. It is a great exertion for me to sit up to write,

Your aff Brother
F.. A. Buhl
