John Riley

John Riley enlisted in the 24th Michigan on September 26, 1864, perhaps because his brothers Richard and George had recently been captured by the confederates. He volunteered to serve for one year. He was 27.

His military record is very confusing. He was never assigned to a company, perhaps indicating that he never reached the Regiment. The "Brown Book" states only that there was no further record.

According to family history, John did not return home until several years after the war. His family had given him up for dead.
