Surgeon General U.S.A.Sir
I have the honor under urgent circumstances to a application for a transfer to St. Mary's Hosp'l Detroit City state of Michigan which I hope your honor will please to grant me. I am under treatment for a wound received at the Battle of Gettysburg July first eighteen hundred and sixty three. A minnie ball from the enemy passing through my right arm near the shoulder breaking and fracturing the bone. I had a surgical operation performed on it the eighth day of last September from which time it has been slowly improving there is as yet openings on both sides. My Doctor thinks it will be some time before I will be able to return to my Regt. I have important business to transact in Detroit City. My Stepfather is in the 22nd Michigan Infantry and my brother is in the 7th Michigan Cavalry and it is my mothers request if possible to get home. I should not wish to get home now if I could be of service elsewhere. I enlisted at Detroit City in Co. I 24th Michigan Infantry on the fifth day of August eighteen hundred and Sixty two. The Regt. was enlisted into the United States service on the fifteenth of that month and from that time until the Battle of Gettysburg I have been in active service. I hope your honor will consider the circumstances and if possible grant the favor.
Sir
I have the honor to remain
Your Obt Servt
