A native of Ireland, Orlando found
work as a peddler in Detroit. He enlisted in Company H on August
13, 1862 at Detroit. He was 25 years old. He was mustered into
service on the same day.
Orlando Scoville was discharged to accept a commission in the 27th Michigan Volunteer Infantry on January 27, 1863.
The State Adjutant General's records do not actually indicate that he ever received such a commission, however.
The photograph at left was taken many years after the war. The ribbons on his right lapel may be for GAR and/or regimental reunions.
In the 1904 "Survivors of the
Iron Brigade", his address is listed as being: "603
Majestic Bldg., Detroit, Mich".
